As if the mere fact that Sam Raimi’s cult horror film being remade was not enough to leave a sour taste in your mouth, Bloody Disgusting is reporting that the lead role of Ash – the wisecracking, chainsaw-handed protagonist once famously portrayed by Bruce Campbell – has finally been cast. And to call it a slightly unexpected choice would be like calling the Nutty Professor slightly chubby.
Say hello to Lily Collins as Ashley (Ash) J. Williams.
Lily who? I hear you cry. Well, you may know her dad, Phil. Yes, that’s right. The sometimes model and waify young actress (Abduction, Priest, The Blind Side) daughter of Genesis’ old drummer, is being asked to replace this:
Good luck with that.
This remake is being directed by Federico Alvarez and is based off his own script, which tells of five friends who spend time in a remote cabin when they find The Book of the Dead and accidentally release a demonic force. Personally, the only ray of hope for me is that the script was reworked by Juno scribe Diablo Cody.
Shooting begins in March, with a scheduled release of April 2013

I really hope that the folk at Bloody Disgusting have their wires crossed. As Kervyn said, it’s bad enough that they are making a remake. It’s called a cult CLASSIC for a reason.
