Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Empire Magazine will be featuring Marvel’s The Avengers on the cover of their next issue. They will also have 3 new images (nothing groundbreaking though) from the much-anticipated superhero film, scans of which can be found over at ComingSoon.net

Director Len Wiseman’s Underworld: Awakening is currently topping the US box office, and while doing some promotion for it, he gave Collider an update on his upcoming Total Recall reboot:

Do you know when we’ll see the first trailer for Total Recall?

LW: I’ve seen it, and it’s great. I believe it will hit in March. I could be wrong, but I think March.

Where are you at now in the editing process?

LW: I am two days away from turning in my director’s cut. I’m actually just doing some finishing touches on it. So, I’m done with that, and the studio takes a look at it fairly soon. So far, it’s actually been a very fun process. There’s a lot of excitement around it, and I’m very happy with it.

How long is your cut at this point?

LW: I think we’re close to two hours, but it’s not all completely assembled. We still have a lot of the visual effects shots that we’re putting in, last minute. I’ll be here for about 20 hours today, and another 20 hours tomorrow.

Is there anything that you’re most excited for fans to see?

LW: I would say how much it really plays with fantasy versus reality, in a way that I wanted to dive into a little bit more. It’s a thing I’ve always been fascinated about with Philip K. Dick’s story and the concept itself. It really has to operate on two playing fields, at any given time. It’s either the fantasy or reality. That’s the thing that I think is the most exciting. It’s got a load of really funaction sequences and visuals, and a whole new world to experience as well, that is really fun, but what makes that all super-engaging is this constant mystery of what world we’re existing in, whether it’s his fantasy or reality.

GeekTyrant has discovered this really cool Star Wars/Skyrim mashup t-shirt. I want one. I want one real bad

If you had told me a year ago that the creator of sing-along TV series Glee was going to be penning a new sci-fi/horror film, I would have pointed a finger in your general direction and cackled like a mandrill on heroin. But Ryan Murphy’s second critical and commercial smash series, American Horror Story, showed that the man can do more than just run big budget karaoke sessions. Now Variety reports that he will be writing a script for Sony Pictures with Apollo 18 scribe Brian Miller. Ok, I’ll admit they had me right up until the Apollo 18 part. Thus far, no word yet on the actual content or title of the story

With the advent of SOPA as well the criminal indictment of MegaUpload owner Kim (Stupid Name Alert, Will Robinson!) Dotcom, piracy has certainly been on the tongues of many people. (No, that is not a clever joke about that big budget Pirates porno). Now Hollywood funny man and lead singer of Tenacious D – possibly the greatest band in the world, tribute – Jack Black, has issued his very own Public Services Announcement video on the whole piracy matter:

They’ve begun playing Quidditch at Oxford University. I don’t think that there’s anything that I can say in this second sentence that makes that first sentence any less idiotic sounding

Now if you don’t mind, I have to dash out of here. I’m already running later for my Rollerball team practice tonight, and I also still have to prepare for this weekend’s Death Race out at Killarney.

  1. The only directors I’d want to see helm Philip K. Dick’s work are Ridley Scott (bow down before Blade Runner) and Christoper Nolan who practically wrote a Dick novel with Inception.

Well done putting the “don’t be a douche” comment before the Quidditch section… dumbasses

Running around with a broomstick between your legs is both utterly hilarious and utterly daft.

It’s hilarity is self-explanatory. And it’s daft because if you slip with a wooden pole between your legs…
