Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Darryn posted the bad news earlier that David Fincher’s animated Goon film is no more due to a lack of funds. However, after the flurry of internet activity yesterday,  Goon creator Eric Powell took to his blog to calm some nerves:

The Goon film is still on the table. David Fincher and Blur still have the option and are still looking for funding. We have not run out of money… because we never had any money to run out of.”

The news of The Goon’s demise came about as a result of some statements that actor Paul Giamatti made, but Powell address that as well:

“He said I could declare him full of crap and a nuisance, which would only make him more suited to play Franky, but is completely untrue.”

So The Goon hasn’t been cancelled but it hasn’t actually started either. The lesser of two evils, I guess.

Thanks to Russian site, KinoPoisk, we have a whole batch of stills from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Although, I have my reservations about the film, I have to admit that visually, they have nailed the character. Click the aforementioned link for the full gallery, but here’s one of my favourite shots:

According to FansShare, the first significant steps have been taken to bring Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange, to the big screen. The movie has been stuck in development limbo for ages, but obviously buoyed by the massive success of all their other franchises, the time now appears right to bring the supernatural superhero to public attention.

Writers Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer have turned in a completed script for the film, and Marvel Studios will now get to the business of getting a director and cast together. The only real fly in the ointment is that Oppenheimer is also the man that gave us 2011’s Conan the Barbarian. The Jason Momoa reboot was the celluloid equivalent of finding blood in your stool, so I’m hoping that he can do much better this time around

A new image has been released for Prometheus, revealing more of the big giant head (no relation to 3rd Rock From The Sun) in the “ampule” room. Click for much larger version:

If the cool trailer for McG’s action/rom-com This Means War wasn’t enough to get you interested in the movie, then maybe this will. Film industry nanny, the MPAA, has slapped an R rating on the film. And the reason for the rating? No, it’s not the possibility of violence between stars Chiris Pine and Tom Hardy. It’s just for sexual content. Suddenly, my call that this was a rom-com for guys seems like a very good one.

A new wallpaper for Amazing Spider-Man has been released, and in it we get a close-up look of Spidey’s footwear. Already having ditched the organic webshooters of the previous films in favour of the tech-based ones, could it be that those funky soles serve a greater scientific purpose?

And in closing, Empire has put together a list of 8 Movies that would piss off PETA. And honestly, it’s a hell of a lot funnier than it sounds. For example, take this gem of a scene from John Woo’s Hard Target, in which Chance Devereaux – played by Jean Claude van Daaaaaame-look-at-that-mullet!, shows a rattlesnake exactly who’s boss.

Well that’s all for now folks. Hope you enjoy the weekend. Now if you guys will excuse me, there’s a really annoying frog in my garden that I’m going to put in an armbar.
