The Brad Bird directed film, starring Tom Cruise as Impossible Mission Force Ethan Hunt once again, has broken box office records set by previous installments in the series to become the most successful of all the MI films. So far, MI: Ghost Protocol has made over $571 million in worldwide ticket sales, something that has had many a Paramount executive rubing their hands together in glee.

Rob Moore, Vice Chairman of Paramount, remarked on the success of the film, saying that “Brad Bird, Tom Cruise, JJ Abrams and the entire team who worked on M:I4 created an incredibly entertaining film, one that fans worldwide embraced in record numbers.”

The closest runner-up between the film is the John Woo directed Mission Impossible 2, which wrapped up at the box office with an impressive sum total of $546 million.

Director Bird has previously joked about how terrified he was of being labelled the director that killed Tom Cruise, when he made the actor hang off the the tallest skyscraper in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai for the film.

Bird said: “I think every director that has worked with him in these kinds of films probably has that feeling where your eyes snap open at three in the morning and you go, ‘My god, what am I doing?’ Definitely.”

I would have paid extra to see that stunt go wrong though.
