X-Men Second Class? Yep, Matthew Vaughn is up for a sequel!

Amidst the trickle of superhero films that hit us last year, X-men First Class was to be one of the best comic book movies to debut, not just for 2011, but in recent years as well.

Slick, polished and with a capable cast that shined on the silver screen, the tale of Charles Xavier working with the magnetic villain to be, Eric Lensherr amidst a cold war backdrop, was a big critical success for Marvel, giving comic book films some credibility.

So it should be no surprise then that a sequel is already in the planning stages, with director Matthew Vaughn and co ready to step back into the combat boots of the children of tomorrow.

According to Deadline, a  report about 20th Century Fox production president Emma Watts signing a new multi-year deal to stay with the company, there’s also a line about the studio closing a contract with Vaughn to return and direct the sequel.

Vaughn is committed for a sequel then, with Marvel comics studio veteran and producer Simon Kinberg also writing a script. There’s no word yet on when the film is expected to begin shooting, but it’s likely that the original cast will be back for the sequel when Vaughns current filming schedule eventually frees up.

My only request? Keep Hank “Beast” McCoys feet covered up for god-sakes. Seeing those appendages in 3-D was enough to make an entire cinema audience throw up in four dimensions.
