Real life South African Tarzan wants to make it in the movies

Gavin Hood, Neil Blomkamp, Sharlto Copley, Charlize Theron, Arnold Vosloo… When it comes to things of the cinematic variety, us South Africans have quite a few to be proud of.

This is not one of them.

Meet 24 year old George native, De Wet Du Toit -an ex-bodybuilder and security guard, now full-time unemployment line occupier – who has dreams of becoming the next Tarzan in director Stephen Sommer’s proposed adaptation of Edgar Rice Burrough’s classic character.

To this end, De Wet has created this demo reel where he shows off his amazing ability to wear a loin cloth, fondle an elephant, surprise river rocks, stare into distances and randomly sit down on ledges before getting up and moving on again.

He also shows how he can live off the land, be one with nature, so to HOLY DIAN FOSSEY, HE JUST KILLED A GORILLA!!

In his own words:

“I’m like Tarzan in so many ways. My best friend is an elephant called Shaka, and I spend more time with monkeys, zebras and crocodiles than I do with people […] People might say I’m crazy, but I know this is what I was born to do. […] I make a platform in a tree to keep away from prowling leopards and snakes on the ground.

It does get lonely – I would love to find a Jane to help me pass the time.”

I’m not entirely sure whether to laugh in derision at De Wet, or to feel a deep and profound sympathy for him. Actually, I take that back. It’s laughter. Definitely laughter.

Nuttier than Squirrel shit. Seriously speaking, no producer in their right mind would hire this man for anything more than making coffee on-set.

Filmmaking brings with it enough bullshit and challenges without having to deal with your clearly unstable main star who isn’t even a name.

Forget Tarzan, this dude should audition for Baywatch if they ever do a reboot. I mean, he is a better actor than 90% of the people that was on that show.
