Dean Parisot prepares to direct a Red sequel

Believe it or not, not every comic book that gets the green light to be adapted into a feature film becomes an overnight success. Sure, Spider-man may have more sequels than Michael Dudikof and the American Ninja films, but when you look at more well-received properties such as Daredevil and Mystery Men, you’ll also see that they didn’t really make an impact at the box office that could justify a second film.

Red however, is one of those films that has received the thumbs up for a sequel, as the wily exploits of former special agents taking on their out-for-blood previous bosses cleaned up rather nicely at the cinemas, earning the film a healthy $200 million in global sales.

With writers Jon and Erich Hoeber having recently completed a script for for the Summit Entertainment sequel, it looks like Red 2 also has a director, in the form of Dean Parisot, as first film helmer Robert Schwenke has given the film a pass. This is the first film in six years for Parisot, who last directed the Jim Carrey caper, Fun with Dick and Jane.

So far, it seems likely that actors Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich will return, although filming will only commence once Willis is done with Die Hard 5, with Summit Entertainment trying their best to get the film rolling by the end of this year.

The first movie lacked a certain something or maybe it was just lame. All the best scenes were in the trailer.
