He may not always be the most popular figure in the world of entertainment, but there’s no denying that Sacha Baron Cohne is a genius when it comes to comedy.

He’s upset numerous ethnic groups and cultures already with his work in the Borat and Bruno movies, but now, Cohen is aiming at maximising his publicity even further, by attempting to crash the Oscars as latest tyrannical character from the film, ‘The Dictator’.

Sources at THR explained that the actor is currently lobbying to attend the awards in character on February 26, in order to drum up some publicity for the May release of his film.

But will the Academy allow for Cohen to attend the event which they consider to be a formal event is still up in the air, as the actor has a history of using award shows to promote his projects, possibly stealing attention away from the main focus of the ceremonies at hand.

Cohen has described his Dictator character as a cross between Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi and a sexaholic who fights against the evils of democracy, so such a live portrayal might not exactly gel with the older gents behind the Academy Awards, while also alienating rival studios and production companies.

If Cohen does get some form of approval, it would most likely be in the form of a quick award presentation, than a full-blown publicity stunt.
