HomeNewsStar Wars The Phantom Menace is a billionaire now Darryn Bonthuys February 24, 2012 News It may be a two-dimensional film with three dimensional visuals currently, but that hasn’t stopped the first in the Star Wars prequel films from earning a respectable take at the box office, as the film is one of an illustrious few to have earned a spot in the billion dollar club of successful movies. Since it’s opening two weeks ago, SW:TPM has earned over $73 million dollars in ticket sales, pushing its combined box office totals all the way to $1.4 billion. What’s even more surprising, is that it looks set to overtake The Dark Knight soon, as it’s only $1.5 million away from doing so. It’s the eleventh film so far in the history of cinema to earn more than a billion dollars in revenue, and if it surpasses the batman himself, it’s also going to be the tenth highest grossing movie of all time. Jar Jar Binks is more popular than the Gotham vigilante? Kervyn Cloete No. You really don’t. I am probably the biggest Star Wars fanboy on here. Hell I don’t even think that Episode 1 is as bad as some make it out to be. However I can tell you without a shadow of doubt that the 3D on this film is almost non-existent. It’s about as blatant a cheap cash-grab as I have ever seen. You want to go see good 3D?
