While everyone may be either fawning or fuming at the Oscar results, one thing is still clear, and that’s that people are still watching movies. The latest box office results are in, and if trends are anything to go by, then army dramas and predictable comedies are leading the critical adulation pack.
Navy Seal actioner and recruitment propaganda extraordinaire Acts of Valour has come out on top, earning a sizeable $24.7 million in revenue, according to Box Office Mojo, easily earning back its $12 million budget, making co-directors Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy very happy campers in the process.
Tyler Perry finished up in second place with Good Deeds, as the feel good flick made $16 million in ticket sales, while Dwayne Johnson managed to peoples elbow Journey 2 back up a slot, taking in another $13.4 million.
Safe House fell down a spot to earn $11.4 million, while The Vow made $10 million in fifth place, leaving Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and This Means War in sixth and seventh place respectively.
The new David Wain directed comedy, Wanderlust, debuted at a disappointing eight place, which saw the hippie commune adventures of Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd only make $6.6 million, while the thriller film Gone came in at ninth place with $5 million, leaving the superb Studio Ghibli animation The Secret World of Arriety in final place, at $4.5 million.
