Stephanie “Sparkly magpie bait vampires” may have finished up her work on completely destroying the Vampire genre, but that doesn’t mean that she’s ready to stop any time soon when it comes to other works of literature.

Having recently had her other novel, the sci-fi genre book The Host optioned for a big screen treatment, director Andrew Nichol is currently filling up casting for the project, and has found one of his leading actresses, in the form of Frances Fisher.

After an invasion of parasitic alien invaders, known as Souls, take over much of the populace, it’s up to a renegade group of unconverted earthlings to man up and save the day. Kinda like the doctrine in Scientology then.

One such member of the rebel earthlings is Melanie, a human who was possessed by an ancient soul by the name of Stryder, but proved to have a far stronger willpower than it knew, ending up with the two merging thoughts.

Saorise Ronan will play Melanie, while Frances Fisher will act as the tough as nails Maggie, sister to fellow survivor Uncle Jeb, played by William Hurt.

Will The Host prove to be another case of giddy girls screaming incoherently and wearing Team Stryder T-shirts? Only time will tell.

  1. But wait?  Didn’t Stryder save Middle Earth from Sauron a few years ago?  And became king?
