HomeExtrasExtras! Movies that make men cry, some more short films, Tarantino trunk shots, Predator vs T-Rex and a cat watches Star Wars?! Plus much more! Kervyn Cloete March 2, 2012 Extras Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed! Men don’t cry. We just shed excess manliness through our eyeballs. This is a known scientific fact. If we did cry, in a totally hypothetical and completely theoretical fashion, then these are 9 movies that would probably help to turn on the waterworks. Just a warning, in case you somehow miss the eardrum shattering klaxon at the start of the video, there are a fair amount of spoilers present. Continuing the trend of people having nothing to do with John Carter doing a better job of marketing it than Disney, here’s a fan made poster for the upcoming film that is simply geektastic. If yesterday’s duo of cool sci-fi short films didn’t do enough to sate your geeky cravings, then here’s another choice morsel to consume. This time it’s No Robots, a charming nearly 6 minute animation about a future where robots are banned. It was created by San Jose State University students Kimberly Knoll andYunghan Chang. There shouldn’t be a person alive that has never made a paper plane. And chances are, most of our end results were pretty sad, vaguely triangular things whose flights were so short, that you’d swear that they were actually not being propelled by the muscles in our arms, but rather by baby farts. But for those of us with a bit of cash to spare, we can now rectify these past moments of life long embarrassment. Because for just $13,59, you can now get Star Wars Folded Flyers Paper Airplanes from Amazon, in which they show you how to make some of the coolest damn paper planes you have ever seen. Just have a look at some of these incredible pieces of paper engineering: My inner child just drooled all over the neon Crazy Laces of his North Star Excitements. A lot of directors have signature shots. With Spike Lee it’s a floating dolly effect, with John Woo it’s the dove filled slow mo, with Alfonso Cuaron it’s the exceedingly long single take, with both Guy Ritchie it’s the speed ramping and in the case of Michael Bay, it’s his entire career. And as the clip below demonstrates, when it comes to Quentin Tarantino, his particular film fetish is trunks. No, not the hip hop kind of trunk that contains all your “junk”. That’s a totally different type of fetish, believe me. The trunk shot is where the camera mimics the POV of a character laying down (mostly in the trunk/boot of a car) looking up at one or more characters. And Tarantino has used it a lot. (NSFW) Well, either that or Tarantino is a staunch supporter of the Midget Cinematographers Union. The Hunger Games has officially received it’s rating from the MPAA, scoring a PG-13″ for intense violent thematic material and disturbing images – all involving teens.” While PG-13 doesn’t exactly signify a Sam Peckinpah bloodbath, it is comforting to know that director Gary Ross didn’t completely Disney-fy the sometimes violent source material. Filed firmly under RANDOM, this next video shows a cat watching Star Wars. Seriously. And he really seems to like it. Also, there is some kind of internet law that states that a website has to periodically include some article/picture/video of a cat or the hordes of 4chan will descend upon you like a plague, hacking your servers and sending pictures of your pee pee, with your head photoshopped onto the end, to all your colleagues. Or something. Somebody made an Indiana Jones cupcake. Indiana Jones…Cupcake… Two things that really shouldn’t go together, but yet I simply must have them. My taste buds just high fived my brain. 17″ Tall Predator vs T-Rex sculpture. Nothing else needs to be said. And finally, we end on another short film. Yeah, I know, I know. There’s been a lot of them featured here recently. It’s not my fault that talented people have access to the internet. The Chase is an animated action film by Tomás Vergara, and took the self taught 3D artist just $700 and 6 months to make. It tells the tale of a hitman whose job doesn’t quite go as expected. Well, I guess it’s so long and thanks for all the fish. I need to go test out my excess manliness ducts, as it’s been so long since I last used them that they may have grown shut by now. I think either The Lion King or Watership Down is in order. I’d be willing to give choice parts of my anatomy for one of those.
