Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

“Colbie smoulers as Maria Hill.” Get it? Because her last name is Smulders, and she’s looking kind of hot. Oh never mind, just look at these new Avengers pictures, featuring the SHIELD agent:

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was a movie of two halves. It got off to an incredible start but then somewhere around the middle somebody suggested something stupid, we all went “WTF?” and suddenly we were crying in disbelief. Sort of like our love lives, then. A large portion of that impressive opening was the pitch perfect casting of Ryan Reynolds as the “Merc with the mouth”, Deadpool. Unfortunately, the next time the fan favourite character appeared on screen he looked like Neo after they’d just unplugged him from the Matrix, only with kitchen utensils inexplicably stuck in his arms.

So it was with much trepidation that I greeted the news that they were making a Deadpool feature film, as that version of “Powder the Ninja” is not something I really want to see again. Luckily, star Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that the new film will have nothing to with that:

(Deadpool) will actually have no connection to the one that was in (X-Men Origins:) Wolverine.

The script is, I think, fantastic. It’s been developed even further in the last three months or so. The film has to be rated R, and it has to be done a certain way, it has to do all these things that I am sure can be worrisome for the guy cutting the checks for it, so if it’s going to be done, it needs to be done right.

Universal Studios has one of the most recognizable logos in movie history. This years sees the 100 year anniversary, and in celebration they have revealed this look at all their logos throughout the last century.

We previously reported that Joel Kinnaman (The Killing, Safe House) was offered the lead role in director José Padilha’s Robocop reboot. Well now Deadline has confirmed that the suddenly very in demand young actor has accepted the role.

I’ve reported quite a bit on Gareth Evan’s The Raid: Redemption, and I’m going to keep on doing it until you all reach the same level of fever pitch excitement that I have for the film. (Pro tip: You may need some pharmaceutical help to catch up to me at this point). So here’s another impressive behind the scenes look at the Award winning Indonesian martial arts action fest:

Kathryn Bigelow’s in-production Osama Bin Laden movie has got the working title of Zero Dark Thirty, according to Deadline. The term is military slang which refers to the very early time of morning before dawn. This is normally the time used for raids or assaults as it’s when your target will be most likely not be prepared.

I love minimalism. The act of capturing a big idea in just a single image or word is something I can truly appreciate. Which means that Pascal Richon has just become a name I’ll be paying attention to in the future after seeing the amazingly simplistic movie posters that he designed. You can find a whole bunch over at the link, but here is my favourite:

Have you seen the geekgasmic new Avengers trailers? It was so awesome that it pretty much broke my crotch. Know what else it broke? The iTunes record for most views with 13. 7 million views in the first 24 hours alone. That right there is a whole lot of Whedon love. This is of course just the latest salvo in Marvel’s trailer war with DC; the first Avengers teaser broke the then iTunes record, only to have DC’s Dark Knight Rises teaser then take the crown. Now, Marvel finds itself back on top with the most awesome game of catch ever played by a green giant and a dude in a stylish tin can.

When it comes to Star Wars Episode 1, most people’s geek rage is aimed at the duck faced Jamaican alien, Jar Jar Bink. Since Jar Jar is not a real person though, that hatred never manifested physically. Unfortunately for Jake Lloyd, the 8 year old actor that portrayed the young Anakin Skywalker, he is very much a real person, and probably 2nd on the Star Wars geek hit list after the goofy gungan. You see, Lloyd’s performance was so wooden that I kept expecting Jiminy Cricket to show up and give him advice. How he ever got cast in the role is beyond me. But unfortunately for Lloyd, he did get the role, and it has made his life a living hell. To the point where he has vowed to never appear in front of a camera again, as IMDB reports:

(He) destroyed all his Star Wars memorabilia, and only ever stepped in front of the camera again to reprise his role as Anakin for five video games.

He recalls, “Other children were really mean to me. They would make the sound of the light saber every time they saw me. It was totally mad.

“My entire school life was really a living hell – and I had to do up to 60 interviews a day.”

Lloyd, who is now aged 22 and a budding filmmaker, only makes rare appearances at sci-fi conventions.

He says, “I’ve learned to hate it when the cameras are pointed at me.”

I know this might sound mean-spirited, but am I the only one that just breathed a huge sigh of relief?

Dear human race, what the flying fudge? Somebody has created – and by that I mean spent actual real world time and money – on creating an Avatar N’avi baby, and then put it up for auction on eBay.

Stay classy, internet.

Firmly taking its place next to that in “I definitely never would have predicted this in real life” column, is the following clip: A Shakespearean version of Pulp Fiction. Yeah, you didn’t read that wrong.

Yeah, that’s about all the weird internet I can handle for the day. I’m out of here.

I’m pretty much giving away how big a geek I am but that Universal logo from the 80’s, the one where the earth comes from out of focus to into focus is the one I grew up with and I get a bit nostalgic everytime I see it.

Also, that new one looks flippin epic. Jeez, that must look awesome in the cinema

That new logo is a thing of beauty, And I too associate movie logos with certain periods of my movie-going life. I pretty much lost my shit when watching Super 8 and the Amblin logo appeared.

For a long time, she was considered as Joss Whedon’s first choice for when he was still going to do the Wonder Woman movie, so it’s fitting that he gives her this opportunity.
