Tom Cruise to star opposite Beyonce in A Star is Born?

Tom Cruise is an undeniably talented actor, but his personal life choices have certainly left a lot to be desired. First there was the whole Scientology thing, then he stomped the hell out of Oprah’s couch like it owed him money, and now he may just be starring in a movie opposite professional screecher, Beyonce Knowles.

The movie in question is Clint Eastwood’s remake of the famous film, “A Star is Born”. This would actually be the third time that the film received the remake treatment.

Beyonce was previously signed for the lead role famously played by Judy Garland and then later, Barbara Streisand, while Warner Bros has apparently approached Cruise to play her older, troubled mentor. This role was originally offered to Leonardo DiCaprio but he eventually pulled out.

No word yet as to whether or not Cruise will accept, as this is still pretty early in the negotiations. What will clearly not be helping to ease the decision is the fact that Cruise already has a pretty busy 2012 ahead of him, as he is about to start production on Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion and then jumping straight from that into Doug Liman’s All You Need Is Kill.

This could be a big problem for Eastwood’s production, as it has already been delayed by Knowles’ unexpected pregnancy last year. Also, there is the even bigger problem of her, you know, not actually being a very good actress.

An older mentor type filled with wisdom to spare and an equal amount of self-loathing? Surely Cruise can just pull from memory for this role. That’s not a pisstake, btw. I’m being absolutely serious
