Looks like Big Brother is returning, but with a 1984 reboot twist

Remember the year 1984? I don’t because I hadn’t popped into existence yet, but for a lot of people, it was the year that proved George Orwell wrong, as the world had not become an oppressive dictatorship yet.

Unless you lived on the eastern side of Germany, but that’s besides the point. While I set a personal record of two days, about not finding out that any remakes are on the way, it looks like I’m going to have to reset that clock back to zero, as Brian Grazer begins to eye a reboot for that particular property, as new plans are underway to once again adapt 1984.

The original Orwell tale was set in the society of Ocenia, and featured a population that was ruled by the heavy-handed iron fist of Big Brother, who controlled evrything via his group, The Party.

Being an individual was a bad idea, self-discovery was a taboo and love was something that you experienced when Oceania needed you to pop out some new citizens and recruits.

One employee of the Ministry of Truth, Winston Smith, began to reawaken illegal thoughts towards revolution and humanity however, with certain consequences erupting around him because of it.

Brian Grazer, alongside artist Shepard “Obama Hope Poster” Fairey have been looking at getting the 1984 film back up on the big screen, and after discovering that Julie Yorn and LBI Entertainment were also interested, the various parties teamed up to do just that.

There aren’t any writers or directors lined for the various pitches that the producers are going through, as of now, so don’t expect 1984 to be rushing towards big screens any time soon.

Hopefully this will be a worthwhile reimagining, or it might require a time-out session in room 101 for the parties responsible for it.

This is an adaptation, not a reboot. Reboots are when studios messed up a property and decide to just blank-slate the deal. If you call this a reboot, you’d have to call I Am Legend one too.
