Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Are you a worshipper of all things Apple? Do you also love George “The Flanneled One” Lucas’ Star Wars films? Well then boy, do I have a treat for you!

Geek goods site Etsy has this awesome “Han Solo in Carbonite” cover for your iPhone:

Here’s a description from the case’s creators, iCaseSeraSera

Each iPhone case is embellished with my designs one at a time using a unique printing technique that allows me to permanently instill an image into a thin aluminum insert on the back of the molded plastic case. The insert is heated to over 400 degrees, cooled, and then permanently adhered to the phone case. The result is a vibrant, permanent imprint.

This custom made snap-on case is designed to fit all of the iPhone 4 and 4S models. With ample openings for all the buttons and the camera lens, this lightweight case is the perfect phone accessory – instantly customizing any iPhone with color and style.

To think, Chuck Norris was once considered a badass. This is a guy who went toe to toe with Bruce motherfrakking Lee and lived to tell the tale! He’s achieved a level of internet fame normally reserved exclusively for flexible russian girls with an aversion to clothing. And yet it seems he is a colossal old fuddy-duddy (I believe that is the technical term), if this statement from Dolph Lundgren is to be believed.

Lundgren was speaking to Empire magazine about Sylvester Stallone’s Expendables 2, in which he co-stars with Norris. As previously reported, Norris apparently requested that Stallone trim down the violence of the film to a PG-13 level (for his precious kids, you see) but Stallone has insisted on keeping it to the original R rating.

Not that Norris’ sheltered kids would ever get to see that version anyway:

“Chuck likes to re-cut all of his films before he shows them to his kids. He told me he has his own editor. So it’s irrelevant! He could make it a G-rating if he wanted to!”

And this is a man that made his career out of kicking people’s molars down their esophagus!

Ralph Fiennes is an actor that has pretty much played it all in his career. However it’s his villainous roles where he has really shined. Inspired by his current turn as Hades in Wrath of the Titans, MTV Movie Blog has a write up on his Five Greatest Villain Roles. Despite the fact that he has played such fantastically evil characters such as the Lord of the Greek Underworld and Powder’s Evil Twin Brother Harry Potter’s nemesis, Voldemort, for me there is simply no contest as to which is the scariest:

» Amon Goeth (“Schindler’s List”)
One of the most memorable scenes in this movie involves Fiennes standing on the balcony of the commandmant’s base and shooting innocent Jews for fun. Based on a real-life Nazi war criminal of the same name, Goeth was responsible for the death of tens of thousands of people. Believing that the Jews should have to pay for their own executions, Goeth ordered the Jewish Council to give the Gestapo enough money to cover the expenses for the ammunition used to murder them.

Look, when you’re making people pay for their executions, then you know you’re evil.

Empire has a new Prometheus themed cover for May that features star Noomi Rapace and boldly declares – all in caps! – that she is THE NEW RIPLEY!

Julianne “I told you the carpets match the drapes” Moore looks to be joining Joseph Gordon-Levitt in his as yet unnamed directorial debut. JGL will be doing his thing on both sides of the camera, as he also stars as a “modern day Don Juan who sets out to become a less selfish person.” According to Variety, Moore will be up for the unnamed role of Levitt’s character’s mentor.

For those of you not familiar with current affairs, there is currently a huge furor raging about the lethal shooting of Florida teen, Trayvon Martin, by local resident George Zimmerman simply because he viewed Martin as threatening due to him wearing a hoodie. Zimmerman has not seen any legal action as a result of Florida’s controversial “Stand your ground” law. I’m not going to get into the specifics of the case here (you can read all about it over here) but I am going to report on this interesting story by Guardian about how director Spike Lee made a huge faux pax on Twitter about the affair.

The director, being the armchair activist that he is, decided to tweet the actual home address of George Zimmerman to his 250, 000 followers. Problem is, it was the wrong George Zimmerman.

Elderly couple David and Elaine McClain, whose son William George Zimmerman lived with them in the 90’s, suddenly found themselves the target of a public backlash.

Lee has since issued a statement, apologizing for his mistake:

“I Deeply Apologize To The McClain Family For Retweeting Their Address. It Was A Mistake. Please Leave The McClain’s In Peace. Justice in Court.”

The Step Up movies are the dancing equivalent of a Michael Bay movie: Hot girls in minimal clothes, a script that can fit on the back of a match box, pyrotechnics filled “action” sequences and the best damn robot you have ever seen. There’s a new film coming up and it seems to be going all “Occupy Wall Street” with a message about big corp- Oh who cares what the story really is. We know what’s going to happen: dancers gonna dance, douches gonna douche, dancers gonna dance better.

Here’s the trailer:

There’s a new viral marketing website out for Len Wiseman’s Total Recall reboot. It’s a fake site for Rekall, the company from the film that offers customers a virtual getaway via memory implants. The site boasts the taglines “Escape from your world to ours. Come to Rekall for a memory of a lifetime.” and allows users to enter their telephone number so that a Rekall representative can contact you with further info about their “vacation packages”.

Unfortunately though, we’re once again faced with “We are the world” syndrome, as the callback service only works for numbers in the US.

And we end off today’s shenanigans and tomfoolery on this amazing animated short film by Brigham Young University’s Center for Animation student, Ty Carter. DreamGiver tells of what happens when the characters from a book of ancient mythology come alive and invade a young boy’s dreams. It’s a simple well used concept, but still present amazingly.

And that’s all from me for today. I’m going to a party tonight, and after watching that Step Up trailer I’ve been inspired to get my groove on. There will be much poppin’ n lockin’. And by “poppin’ and “lockin” I actually mean dislocating a hip and crushing my C2 vertebrae in an attempt to dance like MaddChadd.

Hehe, I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that Rapace is gonna buy it, and that it is in fact our Charlize
who’s gonna be the sole survivor this time

Regardless of whether it was the wrong address or the right one, Spike Lee was completely wrong to give out that information. It’s the sort of that, right now, would hardly lead to a positive outcome.

While his ideals might be in the right place, that was still dumb as shit

I wish I could have my own editor. It would vastly improve some movies…
