While Game of Thrones may not be a regular fixture on the box office charts, it’s kind of hard not to acknowledge the cinematic flair and attitude the hit HBO series has, with the second season of the popular show receiving rave reviews and acclaim from critics and viewers so far.

In fact, the second season is doing so well right now, that it’s chief backer, HBO, has decided to go ahead and invest in a third season.

HBO president of programming, Michael Lombardo, made the announcement in a press release yesterday, saying that “Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss raised our expectations for the second season – and then surpassed them”.

For more joyful hyperbole, read the full press release here. And for those of you who are unfamiliar with why the rest of the world currently loves sarcastic dwarves lately, then rent/buy the first season of Game of Thrones, it should be available locally by now.

Based on George R.R Martin books, Game of Thrones is set in the land of Westeros, a medieval world of fantasy that is home to betrayal, back-stabbing and Brace yourselves, Winter is coming memes.

They’re making the TV series faster than G.R.R.M can write the books! Not complaining though, I loved the books and the TV adaptation does them justice, just hope the book series gets finished at some stage…

Two, unfortunately. After A Dance with Dragons there is still The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, and he apparently started writing Winds of Winter back in 2010.

But as they say, whenever you complain about book releases being too slow, G.R.R.M. kills a Stark.
