If there is one film in this world that I need, besides that Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter flick, it’s got to be the Anchorman sequel. It’s the reason why I wear sex panther cologne and have a mustache, so news of the proper sequel did excite me greatly indeed.

Director Adam McKay recently spoke to Empire about the sequel, discussing how far the script was, the challenges that the channel 4 news team would be facing and of course, the perils of innovation.

Talking about the script, McKay confirmed that he was indeed working on it, and that it had evolved from notepad scribbles through to fully-fledged ideas and jumbled notes;

We’ve done about two per cent! Half a per cent? We’ve got five pages of story notes and chunks of story. We’re holing up writing for the next three months.

As for the setting of the film, McKay says that Ron and co would be facing the challenge of  a society that was progressing out of its drug-fueled sex party stage, into a society that focused more on 24 hour news, presented by people of all races and creeds.

We know these guys never deal well with change, and the good thing is that there’s a big blast of change coming, according to the regular timeline. We’re going to be throwing a lot of innovation at them, and they’re not going to handle it well.

It’s right when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ’78 or ’79. All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with.

Yeah, we all know just how well Ron Burgundy got along with his Mexican news team rivals, don’t we?
