Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

James Cameron’s Avatar may just have been a big budget production of Smurfs playing Pocahontas, but it certainly went on to break and establish a large number of cinematic records. One such record, was the title of biggest first day opening ever in Hong Kong. Well, Cameron’s film just got kicked off the top spot by 3-D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy which racked up  HK$2.8 million (US$360,000) on opening day, compared to Avatar‘s previous record of HK$2.6 million. Curious filmgoers were apparently travelling in via tour groups from strictly censored mainland China to see the porn film which added to its success.

Just wait until they discover that there is actually a 3D porn version of Avatar.

It’s been nearly four years since the passing of Don LeFontaine, or as most you know him, The Voice In Movie Trailers. Since then, there hasn’t really been a single person to take up his crown. Until now. He’s name is Jake Foushee. Oh and he’s only 14.

Superhero films are all the rage lately and despite my feelings that we are really only now seeing the true cream of the crop coming through, there are already a large number of people asking for them to go away. Well Tom Hiddleston, who stars in this little movie you might have heard of – The Avengers – has written an incredible article for The Guardian, defending the superhero film. It’s an incredible read which I highly recommend.

I may not have much love for Michael Bay’s cybernetic douche-athon on the big screen, but man I really want to go on Transformers: The Ride at Universal Studios. Now you can have a look at this behind the scenes video, which serves the dual purpose of making me want to check out the ride even more, and also making me realize that voice of one most badass robots ever conceived looks he should work in fish and chips shop.

It’s no secret that I love me some space ships. Unfortunately, there is the slight problem of reality standing between me and my dream of piloting an X-Wing starfighter. Luckily though, this handy infographic has provided me with the name of a very real alternative. I wonder what type of astromech droid an A-10 Warthog uses.

Oh and it’s very long, so click and scroll.

How To Train Your Dragon is easily one of the best animated movies of the last few years. But did you know that Hiccup and Toothless’s adventures are about to continue on the stage in an incredible looking live actions show?

Oh and despite what your ears are telling you, that is not Jake Foushee doing the voice-over.

Just to prove that it’s not just capes and cowls around here, here’s a nice list put together by Slashfilm detailing The Best Nature Documentaries You Probably Haven’t Seen.

I am a firm believer in that old idiom of having to know where you come from, to know where you’re going. And seeing as this week sees the release of superhero mega movie, The Avengers, it’s only fitting for us to take a look back, all the way to 1988, to the last time that the Hulk and Thor shared some screen time.

Although I’ve never done the stuff, I’m pretty sure that 0:32 to 1:00 is a 100% accurate representation of a bad acid trip.

If you had hopes of seeing new Bond girl Naomi Harris showing off her girly gadgets, when then I’m afraid that I must be the bearer of bad news. Speaking to Total Film, the actress addressed the rumours of her stripping down in Bond’s next outing, Skyfall.

“I don’t reveal anything physically! What [the Bond girls on Skyfall] are offering is strength and intellect and wit and we’re equals to Bond.”

That doesn’t mean that there won’t be any skin on display though, as it appears that Daniel Craig – who suddenly discovered a whole new fanbase when he walked out of the ocean in nothing but a skimpy shorts in Casino Royale – will once again be getting his kit off:

“I have seen him partially undressed, I can give that away!”

If the above-mentioned Hulk vs Thor fight still did not sate your appetite for hilarious Avengers related videos, then Avengers (On a Budget) certainly will. And this time, the laughs are actually intentional!

Oh Hawkeye, you D-list superhero, you.

And that’s all for today. Also, this makes two Extras in a row that has kicked off with a bit of porn related news. Totally coincidental, I promise. Oh and I’m just storing those magazines under my bed for a friend. Yes, my friend likes the kinky stuff, but I prefer not to judge. Motherf$@#er.
