Guard your marmalade, because Paddington Bear is coming!

With beloved children’s properties, such as Yogi Bear, the Smurfs, and to a much, much, muuuuuch lesser extent, Alvin and the Chipmunks, raking in cash at the box office, should it be surprising that Hollywood is looking for the next property to make an expensive film about?

A certain bear in a blue raincoat and red hat is next up then, as Paddington Bear has been patiently eating marmalade since 2007, waiting for a big screen release.

And now, it appears that the arrival of director Paul King has finally got the film back on track.

Hamish “Bean’s Holiday” Nicholl had originally written a script for the gentle bear, but with King on board, it appears that his treatment will be ditched for something writtine by the director himself.

Producer David Heyman has Studio Canal lined up to help bring the film to life, with Paddington most likely lined up to be a CG effect, amongst a cast of actual people.

“Paddington Bear is a universally loved character, treasured for his optimism, his sense of fair play and his perfect manners,” Heyman said in a statement picked up by The Hollywood Reporter. “And of course for his unintentional talent for comic chaos.”

King, who happened to have survived working on the british surrealistic show, The Mighty Boosh, is also responsible for the well received Bull and Bunny, from last year.

Better stock up on Marmalade then, we reckon, before Ted Bear hears of this.
