Hello RemakeVille! We all know how Hollywood just adores to remake anything these days, and while some films are ripe and suitable for a fresh new take, the rest clearly aren’t.

So what’s on the agenda this morning, ready to be reimagined, reenvisioned and reborted? Why, none other than the cult classic western, The Magnificent Seven.

And they’ve even roped in Tom Cruise to star in it.MGM, owner of the property and current reboot-fanatic king, has the project in the early stages, as they’re scouting for a director and writer. MGM, has several other remakes on the horizon, from Robocop and Carrie, as well as a finished Red Dawn remake that they’ve been sitting on since 2010.

Tom Cruise has been eager to get the remake of the hired guns off the ground for several years now, even though his current schedule has him booked solid until he hits retirement age.

There’s no word yet on whether this will be a straight remake, or only utilise elements of the original film, or even which of the seven gunslingers Cruise will portray, according to Variety.

The original 1960 film, inspired by Akira Kurosawas Seven Samurai film from 1954, starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter and Horst Buchholz.

Three sequels followed in its wake, as well as a short-lived TV series.

Interesting. Takashi Miik’es 13 Assassins also recently explored the theme very effectively. And the idea of a new Western is not a bad thing, even if it is a remake.

Btw, did you know that of that list of actors you mention at the end, only one is still alive?

Damn, that’s actually sad, now that I realise it. I’M SO OLD!
