I’m a huge fan of western films. Clint Eastwood, Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer, those are actors who all grace my collection of high noon shoot-outs and showdowns.
Notice something missing there? Yep, those films are generally massive sausage festivals, with every few female characters seen. In fact, the last time I may have seen a leading lady slap leather, may have been in the Quick and the Dead, from Sam Raimi.
But now that my favourite actress, Natalie Portman (Damn Natalie, you a crazy chick!) has signed on to star in future western Jane Got A Gun, I’m hopeful. And excited.
While Portman is currently working on two Terence Malick films, Lawless and Knight of Cups, the actress has taken to producing as well, with a return to muscled Asgardians in the upcoming Thor 2, and now Jane Got a Gun.
Focusing on the wife of an outlaw, Jane Got A Gun finds our main character picking up the six-shooters of her betrayed husband, saddling up and pursuing the gang that betrayed him, while recruiting some help in the process.
With Portman involved, expect studios to flock to finance this project, which is still in an embryonic stage, which will be directed by Lynne Ramsay.
