SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN director Rupert Sanders says he can make a successful HALO movie

The Halo video games have undoubtedly been some of the most cinematic gaming experiences we’ve had over the last decade or so (trying to pay attention to the on-screen action while some irritating 10-year old is making a noise in your ear… Yep, definitely cinematic), which is why they’ve always seemed like the perfect choice for a live-action film adaptation. That opinion was cemented even more when Microsoft started producing big-budget live action ads for the games, which played out more like feature films than your standard commercials.

Alas, after going through all 9 circles of developmental hell (here’s a nice write-up of the whole affair), the property seems to be stuck in limbo, but one of the men behind some of the most acclaimed of those live action ad campaigns, Rupert Sanders, says that he could make it work.

Sanders’ first full length feature film, Snow White and the Hunstman, is about to be released this weekend coming, and while speaking to MTV about the reimagined fairy tale adventure, he revealed what he feels needs to happen for a Halo movie to not only exist, but also become a success.

For those of you who don’t want to watch the entire video, here’s the cliff-notes version:

“I believe that given the freedom, I could make it work. I think the problem is that there are so many laws existing and so many people you have to be beholden to. [I would make it] if they said to me, here’s the ‘Halo’ world, go do it, which would never happen.”

“I think that ‘Halo’ is a hard property because they don’t need to make a film. They make far more money out of the games so why risk? There’s a lot of bad versions of movie video games. Very few that work.”

Sanders also spoke about what his plans are after Snow White, and it seems pretty intriguing:

“I’d like to make a science fiction film, I’m working on one loosely based on the Battle for Algiers. Again, thematic, slightly political. I think you can get away with being a bit more political in science fiction. We just got a first draft, so I think in the next kind of month or two we’ll have a better version of it and hopefully start to put together the world.”

And just to remind you of what Sanders could potentially be capable of with a Halo movie, here’s his live-action Halo: ODST ad:

I would sacrifice livestock if it meant we’d get a well made Halo movie.
