Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

We start off today with something very… well, pretty small actually, but exciting nonetheless. During the MTV Movie Awards, director and geek extraordinaire JJ Abrams made an appearance. And while he didn’t really say or do anything of any major significance, some very eagle-eyed viewers (Who are these people? Bravestar?) over at Trekmovie spotted a blurry frame of a video in the background that appears to be the first look at a Klingon in Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek sequel. Well, either it’s a Klingon in headgear or Abrams is secretly working on a Predator movie.

This would not be the first time that Klingons appeared in the new Star Trek timeline, as an entire sequence with the bumpy-headed warrior race was filmed for the first film, but was then subsequently cut. The sequence can now be found as a deleted scene on the home release of the film

Logan Leman (Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief) and newcomer Douglas Booth have been cast as the sons of Russel Crowe’s titular biblical character in Darren Aronofsky’s Noah. No word on yet whether or not Jennifer Connelly has been confirmed as Noah’s wife, but it still seems likely at this point.

High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale is looking to scare you with more than just her lack of vocal range, as she’s been cast as one of the leads in Scary Movie 5. Based on how painfully unfunny the last few entries in the series has been, I think I’d rather just listen to Ashley Tisdale singing for 90 minutes.

Dredd, the rebooted Judge Dredd film that will hopefully erase the stain of Sylvester Stallone’s 1995 effort, has finally received a full synopsis.

“The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film. Filmed in 3D with stunning slow motion photography sequences, the film returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.”

So basically The Raid, but with less kung fu and more helmets and granite chins? I can dig it. And just because we can, here’s a new pic from the film as well.

Scotland is rallying behind Pixar’s Brave in hopes of boosting tourism. There’s going to be a lot of disappointed kids though, when they find that the country is more Trainspotting than Brave.

Chris Hemsworth and Kristen Stewart are relieved at the success of Snow White and the Hunstman.

I’m just relieved that Kristen Stewart actually cracked a smile in that interview. I was getting awfully close to believing that she was just a soulless automaton based on past interviews.

The Movie Blog takes a look at 20 Movie Roles You May Not Have Known About. Josh Brolin in Goonies? Elijah Wood in Back to the Future II? How did I miss all of these? Even more importantly, how did Chris Evans go from wearing a whipped cream bikini to leading the biggest super-hero movie ever?

The locally produced Safe House will be releasing on Blu-Ray and DVD today, and MTV have scored an exclusive look at one of the behind the scenes features to be found on the home release. It shows all of the planning and stuntwork that went into filming the rooftop chase scene in Langa, oh and also that Ryan Reynolds is a really nice guy.

It would appear that we live in a world where Michael Fassbender is not famous. I don’t know about you guys, but that’s all the justification I need to commit to having the human race bomb the ever-loving crap out of itself, till there’s nothing but the cockroaches and Keith Richard left alive (because nothing can kill him). Hopefully, evolution then gives us a second chance at a civilization and we actually get it right this time.

Ever wonder what it would be like if Alfred Hitchcock had directed Dark Knight instead of Chris Nolan? Well, then wonder no more, strange idea person! Here’s the Batman film mashed up with the soundtrack to Hitchcock’s Vertigo.

“Conan, What is best in life?!” How about the 10 Most Quotable Movies for Geeks That Aren’t Star Wars.

James Earl Jones will be receiving the prestigious Marian Anderson award for his work on stage and screen.

Here’s a first look at Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime biopic Liz & Dick. Strangely enough, in these pics she appears to be all class and not looking intoxicated nor flashing her lady bits. Clearly they just caught Li-Lo on a slow day.

The Rise of the Plant of the Apes sequel has got a new title: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (though I’m certain there should be a few more “of the’s” in there somewhere). The film has also landed a scheduled release date of 23 May 2014. Rupert Wyatt’s previous film was easily the biggest pleasant surprise of 2011 for me, so I cannot wait for some more monkey business.

You know whenever I watched any of the Prometheus trailers, as impressive as most of them were, there was always this nagging thought in the back of my head: “Wouldn’t these trailers be, like, so much cooler if they were made entirely out of paper?!” Fortunately, it seems that I was not the only one to have that kooky idea:

By the time you read this, I would just have finished watching Prometheus, and I have a feeling that I’m going to be severely disappointed when there isn’t at least one sequence made out paper now.
