Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Remember yesterday how I wasn’t all that impressed with Ridley Scott’s description of a “new” scene from the Blade Runner sequel, all because he was actually ripping off from the original screenplay for the film, the one that he discarded back then. Well turns out that somebody has uploaded the concept art animatic that was originally created for that scene, so now you can see what I’m talking about.

Den of Geek spoke to Lucasfilm producer Rick McCallum about the proposed long-in-development live-action Star Wars TV series, and asked whether or not it would be a better fit on a TV network or perhaps on Cable, where censorship is far more relaxed:

“Our biggest problem is that these stories are adult. I mean…these are like Deadwood in space. [It’s] so unlike anything you’ve ever associated with George before in relation to Star Wars. These aren’t for kids. I mean, we hope they’ll watch, but it’s not being targeted at 8-to-9 year old boys. The situation we have is that each episode – or if you put two hour long episodes together – is bigger than any film we’ve ever done. It’s on the Avatar level and we’ll only have about $5-6 million we can spend on each episode.”\

….and cue all the erotic Star Wars fan fiction!

You may recall FDR: American BadassOr actually you may not, seeing as it looked so horribly crap, that you probably blocked out the memory. Well, you’ll soon be seeing a lot more of it, as it’s going to screen at Comic Con 2012.

Inspired by the crew of Prometheus’ attempts to track down the very source of human life, Movies.com takes a look at The Best Space Missions in Movies.

Movieline looks at How Battleship Dodged the John Carter Treatment. No, it was not because of Rihanna.

Peter Jackson has revealed a new production video on The Hobbit, which gives a 14 minute tour of Stone Street Studios where we get meet the cast and crew and find out exactly what it is they all do. Make sure you watch all the way to the end, for a small surprise.

In preparation for playing flamboyant musician Liberace in a new biopic titled Behind the Candelabra, Michael Douglas began trying on his wife, Catherine Zeta Jones’ underwear, much to her dismay.

“Michael has been in the bedroom and started putting on my diamonds and things.

“I’m like, ‘Michael, please take off those pants (underwear). Take ’em off baby. Come on, give me back my rocks.'”

At least that’s what he’s claiming.

Janet Jackson is going to make a documentary about the transgender community. In case you’re wondering, yep, that sentence is as surprising to me as it is to you.

Continuing with sentences that appear to come straight out of left-field: Spike Lee is going to direct a Mike Tyson Broadway play.

And the weirdness doesn’t stop: Kevin Costner and Stephen Baldwin are about to face each other in a courtroom battle over a £34m deal to clean up the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Waterworld 2: The Retired Years anybody?

What if Prometheus was a 50’s B-Movie?

While the identity of the main villain in JJ Abram’s Star Trek sequel is getting more confusing by the day, that is definitely not the case in the upcoming video game spinoff. It’s been revealed at the current E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) happening in Los Angeles that the lizard-like Gorn will be the main baddies facing off against Kirk and friends. Yes, the Gorn. Well at least you know the melee sections will be easy.

Head over to Collider for the game’s trailer as well as a whole bunch of images.

Take a look behind the scenes at the new Transformers: The Ride at Universal Studios, which look absolutely phenomenal.

Now if they could just add a Megan Fox section….

While we all hate people who text in the cinema (and if you don’t then you and me are going to have words later), there are horrible habits that are even worse than that. Thanks to Movies.com I don’t actually have to use my brain-meat and come with examples of them, as they’ve already looked at 10 Movie Habits Worse Than Texting.

Yoghurt had it right: It’s all about the merchandising. Just look at this infographic on Star Wars’ revenue breakdown to see what I mean.

I’m still eagerly awaiting Star Wars: The Flamethrower!

CinemaBlend looks at the 15 Best and Strangest Aliens From the Men In Black Movies. My vote goes to the Ball-Chinian. That creature design is just nuts.

As amazingly well crafted as Ridley Scott’s Alien was, James Cameron’s sequel Aliens will always hold a bit more of a special place for me, as I actually saw it first. And while it may not be as layered as its predecessor, it is an amazingly exciting ride. Know what could have made it better though? If Cameron had filmed it as a musical.

Just wait until you hear Ripley’s singing voice.

Deadwood in space? And they hope kids might watch? Have they seen Deadwood? I was going to make a Al Swearengen-style joke about the Force or something, but there is no age restriction on this site…

I’m pretty sure that Calamity Jane used swear words like most people use punctuation.

Let’s not forget the beautiful speech Wild Bill gave to that guy about his mouth.
