Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Despite me not being the biggest fan of his work, we start off today with a wonderful animated homage to the filmography of Tim Burton.

Here’s a new synopsis for Marlon Wayans’ new film Smart Ass, which is a spoof of found footage horror films a la Paranormal Activity. Oh and don’t be fooled by the presence of the word “Smart” in the title.

“From the creators of Scary Movie comes another hilarious horror spoof, a parody of the Paranormal Activity franchise. When newlyweds Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) move into their dream house, they quickly find they’re not alone. But it’s not the house that’s haunted, but his wife that is possessed with spirits – or as Malcolm calls it – “relationship baggage.” Malcolm hires everyone from a priest to modern day ghost busters to rid her of the demon, determined not to let the evil spirit ruin his marriage… or his sex life for that matter.”

It seems I’m not the only person bothered with all the departure of mental faculty moments in Ridley Scott’s latest, as Film School Rejects list The 10 Stupidest Crew Mistakes in Prometheus.

Universal have won their court case against Asylum Entertainment to have their Battleship knockoff movie American Battleship renamed to American Warship.

Check out this first look at Neca’s line of action figures for Prometheus. Give me one of the engineer in full garb in that pilot chair, and I’ll be sold in a heartbeat.

Here’s a first albeit very tiny look at Collin Farrel in Niels Arden “I made the first Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” Oplev’s Dead Man Down.

And because it’s rude to just give you a tiny Irishman (which, despite how it sounds, is totally not a dirty phrase), here’s the first synopsis for the film as well:

Following the cinematic phenomenon “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” acclaimed filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev and brooding beauty Noomi Rapace reunite for another thrilling tale of vengeance. Colin Farrell joins the prestigious team as brave enforcer Victor, right hand man to an underground crime lord in New York City. He seeks to avenge the death of his wife and daughter caused by his boss. When his employer is threatened by a mysterious killer, Victor also becomes detective. Victor is seduced and blackmailed by Beatrice (Noomi Rapace), a victim turned avenger whose intense chemistry leads them spiraling into payback delivered in violent catharsis. From producer Neal Moritz (The Fast and the Furious franchise, I Am Legend) and Joel Wyman (Fringe, Keen Eddie) comes a triumphant action thriller, a powerful portrait of the relationship between two people caught in the crosshairs of revenge.

If you just cannot wait for the release of Anchorman 2 any more, then don’t worry, you can calm yourself down in the mean time by licking Ron Burgundy’s head.

Slashfilm’s roundup of early buzz on Pixar’s Brave seems pretty good thus far, calling it “the birth of a new Disney princess”. Birth scenes? Is that really appropriate to show to kids? Oh, wait….

Contrary to popular opinion, Charlize Theron is not suddenly embracing her Benoni roots. In preparation for her role in George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, the young actress has shaved off all her normal blonde locks.

With recent news that both World War Z and G.I. Joe: Retaliation has been pushed back to next year, i09 asks What Does It Mean When A Movie Gets Massively Delayed? Er… We buy our tickets later?

Ian McShane is set to join Nick Frost’s salsa dancing comedy Cuban Fury as a flamboyant dance instructor. Al Swearengen all in ruffles and sequins shouting at people? Oh hell yeah, I’d pay to see that.

If you like the magicky stuff in Harry Potter, then this clip is just for you. It’s a supercut of nothing but all the spells used in all 8 of the films:

With all of Apple’s announcements at WWDC yesterday, Film School Rejects takes a look at How iOS 6 Will Make Going To The Movies Easier. No, it does not co-ordinate meetups at trendy coffee shops better.

I grew up in a time when most action heroes appeared to always be smuggling bowling balls under their skin, but you don’t see that too often anymore, which is why What Culture asks Whatever Happened To The Muscular Action Hero?

JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot have teamed up with Paramount to option writer Patrick Aison’s script Wunderkind. The action thriller sees two Nazi hunters in the 1970’s, one from the CIA and one from Israel’s Mossad Intellignce Service, who have to reluctantly team up once their paths intertwine. I expect hijinks to ensue, it always does when Nazis are involved. OK maybe not that one time.

And we end off today with a video of Bill Murray, just being effing Bill Murray like nobody else can.

  1. Interesting these “short” bits across from LG. I just can’t get into themovies site as much as LG but probably not as serious about it.

Interesting pics of Charlize Theron. I personally don’t understand the fuss over the woman, she is on my movie shit list. I’m sure we all have them, where you won’t watch a movie with certain actors in them. For me its, Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, Pattinson, Dakota Fanning, Abigail Bresnan, Jude Law and Colin Farrell. I just want to punch them in the nose when I see them on screen.

Over the weekend I watched probably the 2nd worst movie ever made. I watched Ghost Rider 2, my word what a bad bad movie. I was cringing so much when Cage was trying to act “serious” and the dialogue and pretty much everything about the movie sucked. Special effects were good but man what a boring and crap movie.

Don’t mind me, just having a random chat.

Well if there was ever a spot for random movie related chat, Extras would be it. 😀

As for Ghost Rider 2, that is easily the worst film I saw all year. What pissed me off the most about it, was that due to other commitments I missed the press screening, which means I had to pay money to watch that, even though I knew it was going to be bad.

It’d be interesting to hear why some of those actors/actress are on your shitlist. Charlize Theron and Colin Farrell are both fairly talented actors who have tackled just about every kind of role out there. Yes, they both had their cringe-worthy moments (Daredevil for Farrell and Aeon Flux for Charlize), but overall they tend to always give a solid performance irrespective of the material.

Ah yes, what a bad movie. John Carter also a contender for worse movie of the year. I looked forward to it for so long and was so disappointed. Bloody hell, the acting was so wooden. Apparently they also changed the story from the books, like apparently the amulet thingy wasn’t part of the story. I read what the original storyline should have been and man they should have left it.

Oh if an actor is on my shit list it doesn’t necessarily mean they can’t act. Charlize and Colin are fair actors. I just don’t like them, I just want to punch them haha. Others like Kristen and Pattinson piss me off because they can’t act but yet get worshipped by their idiot minions.

          But…. but…. I loved John Carter…..:(

Yeah, look, I know that Taylor Kitsch is a wooden actor, but there was something about that film that just evoked every childhood memory of classic fantasy movies for me, that I just couldn’t help but love it. Also, Michael Giaccino score is a thing of vintage beauty.

Also, I just began reading A Princess of Mars recently, and can comfortably say that at least for the first act, Andrew Stanton’s adaptation is an improvement on Burrough’s original story.

Have not seen Ghost Rider 2 yet, but guess I’ll give that a miss.  Such a pity.  Nicholas Cage playing Ghost Riders sounded like it was made for each other.  What went wrong?  There is enough great material for it.  I think they should base it on Garth Ennis’ Ghost Rider:  Road to Damnation.  Loved the story in that…but here I’m getting side tracked by graphic novels again (hint LG…make a comic website).
Anyway…when I read Charlize pulled a Brittney I though she showed up without her undies somewhere.  My life is one disappointment after the other…

I’m the resident life-long comic book geek around here. Trust me, if we had to expand to a comic book website as well, I’d never see the outside world. I’d just spend all day posting stuff about how amazing Greg Capullo is, or how in awe I am of Warren Ellis.

The only movie Charlize has bin in where I thought she acted terribly was her recent showing in Snow White and the Huntsman.. so bad, so really bad…

Apart from that I think she’s awesome

I saw Ghost Rider 2 last week, and apart from Idris Elba being awesome as always, I haven’t stopped vomiting ever since.
