Midweek Mouth-off: Are you a rewatcher?

Posted in Opinion by - June 20, 2012

Today we want to know more about your viewing habits. Do you often rewatch the same movie at the cinema, despite the cost of movie tickets, or are you a love-it-and-leave-it type? What films, if any, have you delighted in watching multiple times on the big screen?

Copywriter by day, pop culture blogger by night (and lunch breaks and weekends), Noelle has been a movie addict since her mother rather inappropriately took her to see Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom at the cinema when she was just 3. Her all-time cinema faves include the Indy trilogy, Batman Returns, Coraline, The Prestige, Gladiator and all those awesome dark fantasy flicks of the 1980s.

I can honestly say that I’ve never seen a film at the cinema more than once. If I’m going to blow some cash on rewatching something, then it’s going towards the DVD.

The only film I rewatched at the cinema was “the Avengers” and that was a) an epic film that I enjoyed and b) the second time I went to watch it was with my brother who had yet to see it (he treated me to it which was cool). Generally the costs to watch films over again at the cinema are just too damn high, even if they are fantastic!

I often do multiple viewings, but that’s slightly different in my case, as the first viewing is often a free press screening while the second is usually with a group of friends.

When paying out of my own pocket though, I can only think of a small handful of movies over the few years that I’ve watched multiple times. Inception, Avengers, Memento, Avatar (checked it out in 2D and 3D), A Beautiful Mind, Star Wars: Episode 3 and Gladiator all immediately jump to mind.

The only film that I’ve re-watched at a cinema is Starship troopers.. I saw that about 10 times I think.

Apart from that I generally don’t re-watch movies in general.. Some that spring to mind that I’ve seen a few times though are Seven, Meet Joe Black, Sliver and Star Wars.. oh and Green mile

Re-watch good movies in the cinema all the time. Especially if I fell asleep or something.

Have seen all the Twilight movies from New Moon onwards twice in the cinema, Avengers 2x, and as a kid went to see Ghostbusters 2 about three times!

I rarely re-watch at the cinema. I usually save that for home (I must have seen Alien and Raiders about twenty times each already)

As for the cinema, jeez, only a handful of which only the The Bourne Ultimatum comes to mind. That and The Two Towers and the Fellowship of the Ring

I very rarely watch films multiple times on the big screen, with a handful of exceptions:

Avatar I watched in 3D and at IMAX. Otherwise, I have a curious habit of rewatching Zack Snyder movies: Watchmen twice (once on IMAX), Sucker Punch twice and 300 three times (once on IMAX).

Re-watching Zack Snyder films? At the cinema? Paying for that experience twice?

Is this some extreme form of masochism that I’ve only just come across?
