Time to enroll at MONSTERS UNIVERSITY with these four teaser trailers

While most films will release just one trailer or teaser at a time, Monsters University is doing things a bit differently. Disney/Pixar have released four different variants of the same trailer for the prequel to 2001’s Monsters Inc.

Why would they do that you ask? Well, because we can never have enough Billy Crystal in our lives, that’s why!

Originally released as one teaser each at Disney.comiTunes TrailersYahoo! Movies and The Huffington Post, there are subtle differences in each clip and Dan Scanlon, the film’s director, explains why:

“Billy Crystal’s an amazing comedic actor. He gave us so much fun material, we decided to cut four slightly different versions of the trailer. We are so happy to have him back as Mike!”

Well, here’s all four trailers (saving you some clicking) for you to check out. You can also go vote for your favourite over on their official Facebook page. Personally, I like no.2 the most.

For those of you thinking that I just went all tricksy on you, and got you to watch the same trailer 4 times, listen carefully to what Mike mumbles in his sleep after Sully yanks off his blanket.

With the exception of the Cars films, I’ve loved everything that Pixar produces, and this looks like yet another winner. Billy Crystal and John Goodman are perfectly cast as Mike and Sully and it looks like they’ll be getting up to even crazier shenanigans this time around. Plus, any movie that features Wolfmother’s “Woman” is already well on the way to winning me over.

Synopsis:

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

I was gonna comment about how, ever since it is part of Disney, Pixar has been cashing in on rather underwhelming sequels. But they were doing so already with the Toy Story franchise. Still, after Cars 2 is there reason to get excited by a Pixar film that isn’t original?

    I’ll wait for Brave instead…

In some ways I tend to agree, but Toy Story 3 was epic!!!

People tend to forget that Cars 2 wasn’t a bad movie, we have just become so spoiled with the brilliance that came from Pixar, that it was slated as bad. But yeah, it wasn’t great.

Brave really does look like it will be a winner, though, can’t wait!

That being said, I think the second Monsters movie will also be great!

Being average, as Cars 2 was, is not an excuse imo. If Studio Ghibli brought out a sub-par film, we’d be disappointed too. But I have to concede that the Toy Stories have been solid.

In fact, if they are going to make sequels, how about another Incredibles? Goodness knows Brad Bird could use the rep repair after John Carter.

Correction, Andrew Stanton (Wall-E, Nemo) did John Carter. Brad Bird did Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

But yeah, I’d give almost anything for another Incredibles.

Oh, I thought it was Bird. I always wondered how Ghost Protocol was so much better than JC.

I didn’t mean to make excuses for Cars 2, I’m just saying that nobody can make brilliant films all the time, even the best directors/producers/studios in the world. 😀

But yes, an Incredibles sequel would be, well, incredible. That was a unique spin on the superhero theme, great movie.

I’m just really hoping Brave lives up to my expectations, and admittedly, they are high.

I agree, but Cars 2 felt forced – as if someone was taking a joke and trying to make it funnier. I’d expect that from most studios, but not Pixar.
