Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

We kick off today with a new featurette for Oliver Stone’s Savages, which has John Travolta comparing it to Pulp Fiction. Whether you agree with him or not, all I know is that Salma Hayek looks really hot.

Even (or maybe that should be especially?) when she’s swearing bilingually.

Casey Affleck is set to write and direct a biopic about the life of baseball player Josh Hamilton. And since I have no doubt that most of you (just like me) have no idea who Josh Hamilton is, I (or rather MTV) will now elaborate:

“After making it to the Major Leagues as a relatively young ball player, Hamilton hit a very rough patch, which led him to an alcohol and cocaine addiction. He hit his low after he was suspended from the league and ended up cleaning toilets. He eventually found religion and went clean, leading to his triumphant return to the MLB.”

/Film has spotted a new billboard for The Dark Knight Rises and it is, quite frankly, smashing.

Speaking of ol’Bats… I’m sure that in anticipation of the release of Chris Nolan’s final chapter in his Batman trilogy that a few of you will probably be rewatching the rewatching the previous films. Want to do a real thorough rewatch though? Then head on over to TheMovieBlog, where they take a look at The History of Batman on Screen.

And still keeping it Batty up in here, Chris Nolan’s wife and producer Emma Thomas, is pretty emphatic that Nolan will not return for a fourth film, and she gives some pretty compelling reasons as to why:

“No. Never… No, that’s truly a never. I cannot imagine a world in which he would ever want to come back… We’ve spent almost 10 years of our lives making Batman films”

“The great thing about a trilogy is that it feels like you’ve got a beginning, a middle and an end. It’s like an extended version of a regular film. Once you get into a fourth film then it’s just episodic, and I just can’t see him getting excited about making another film where basically you’re just wheeling in different villains.”

So that’s a “no” then?

Fresh on the heels of the first trailer, here’s a new poster for Taken 2, which shows Neeson having a happy moment. Seriously, he’s never happier than when he’s plotting the violent and abrupt downfall of Albanian gangsters who dare to put sacks over the heads of his family.

Speaking of caring fathers, Andy Lau (House of the Flying Daggers, Internal Affairs) has dropped out of Iron Man 3 due to wanting to spend more time with his 1-year old daughter. Ironically, Lau would have played a Chinese businessman who calls Tony Stark to the East after his daughter is kidnapped.

I’ve never been one to really keep up with fashion (I still occasionally go outside in my Pepe dungaree, bomber jacket and Grasshoppers), but I have to admit that the new Prada Men’s Fall collection looks pretty impressive (if rather uncomfortable and unwieldy). Why am I dispensing fashion advice on a movie site? Well, because not only does the collection have some cool steampunk overtones, but it’s being “modelled” by none other than Gary Oldman, Jamie Bell, Garret Hedlund and William Dafoe.

Dafoe in particular, looks like he just stepped off the set of some alternate history Victorian era epic.

Here’s something to make our very own Noelle squeal like a tickled piglet. The first teaser poster for the feature film adaptation of Paddington Bear has arrived:

Rosa, the amazing animated short film by illustrator Jesus Orellana has landed a feature film deal with 20th Century Fox, with Orellana himself set to direct. And since I know that you guys are getting old and have memories like a rusty rice colander and probably won’t remember me talking about it a while back, here’s a refresher on what Rosa was all about.

Ryan Phillipe is set to make his directorial debut with the indie thriller Shreveport. The Crash star will also act in the film which sees him as a fading movie star who sets out to direct a low budget film (Hey, is this a biography?), when he gets kidnapped, held hostage and tortured. (OK, so maybe not a biography then.)

If there’s one thing I love, it’s crazy science fiction, particularly when practiced by English people (see my raging Doctor Who fanboyism for further proof). Which is one reason why I can’t recommend Matt Westrup’s spine-tingling short film The Gate enough. Another reason is the recent news that Wayfare Entertainment want to turn it into a full length feature film. Either way, if you’re impressed by a masterful blend of CGI and physical effects, then I suggest you give this a watch.

If you are using a device that has emojicons installed, it’s two thumbs up.
