Rian Johnson, writer/director of upcoming time travel actioner Looper, has been tweeting up a storm lately in promotion for his movie. However, with all those tweets he failed to mention that today would see the release of a new international trailer, meaning I woke up to a rather bigger than normal surprise this morning, as this trailer is simply fantastic.

If you were ever on the fence about whether or not get excited for this movie, then this is the trailer to change your mind. Just a warning, straight from the director: While this clip doesn’t really contain spoilers of the big twist, it does reveal a few more plot details than previously.

Jeez, how amazing does that look? And Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s young Bruce Willis looks incredible. In a year that’s already packed to the brim with genre films, Looper is still managing to stand out of the crowd. I think somebody needs to get working on that time travel technology so that the movie can just be sent back to us now from September.

Synopsis:

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.
