It’s still another 5 months until we can finally return to Middle Earth with Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The only way we’ve been keeping our excitement levels in check is through regular sessions of pointing and laughing at our very own hobbit, Darryn, (Have you seen how hairy his feet are?) but even that is starting to lose it’s appeal.

Luckily for us, Entertainment Weekly has given us a new lease on fanboy life with the timely release of 11 new images from the film.

You’d be hard pressed to locate a single “Most anticipated films of 2012” list on the internet and not find The Hobbit somewhere in it’s upper echelons. That’s simply because, with the exception of the opinion of a few stodgy purists, Peter Jackson’s adaptation of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings epic was an incredible achievement and a monumental success. And his adaptation of Tolkien’s original story, The Hobbit, seems to certainly look just as good.

Well, at least in these still images, that is. The verdict is still out on whether Jackson’s decision to film the movie in the new 48fps format will backfire on him or not, as initial viewings of the higher frame rate footage certainly had very mixed responses. Only time will tell whether Jackson is about to revolutionize cinema or crush the dreams of millions of fans.

Synopsis:

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”, the first half of Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkein’s classic tale, follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever… Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities… A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Wow! I can’t wait to see this.

I’m dying to get my hands on the LOTR Lego Sets also (and yes, I am a 30 year old child)
