First look at Matt Damon in Neil Blomkamp's ELYSIUM

You have to hand it to Neil Blomkamp. In a world where not even chronically cryptic JJ Abrams can keep a secret, he has somehow managed to keep pretty much all details of his debutante project, Elysium, under wraps.

But with recent confirmation that the movie will be making an appearance at next week’s Comic-Con, it’s now finally time for show and tell. First up, Matt Damon, who seems to subscribe to the Max Payne school of thought: Shave your head and carry a big gun.

Damon appears to be sporting some sort of body armour/ex-skeleton, and at this point it’s not clear if that is native to his character, or whether it has something to do with the rather large weapon he’s carrying.

And no, we don’t know what “CHEMRAIL” is either, but judging by how violently creative the weapons were in Blomkamp’s District 9, I’m guessing that whomever’s on the business end of that is about to have a really bad day.

And besides for that info, the only other thing we know about this project, is it’s plot synopsis:

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
