It’s been quite a few years since Charles Dickens literary warning to never risk the wrath of a scorned women was adapted for the big screen. In fact, it’s been almost 14 years since Alfonso Cuaron updated the tale for a modern day setting starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Bancroft, and Ethan Hawke, while South Park took their own spin at the tale with robot monkeys.
Now Helena Bonham Carter will be unleashing her Ms Havisham hellish fury in the Victorian age, as she tutors Holliday Grainger as Estella, in the fine art of breaking hearts, specifically that of Pip, played by Jeremy Irvine.
Bonham Carter looks to be in her element here, going full-cray cray (YOU NEVER GO FULL-CRAY CRAY!), in a film that is stuffed with love, betrayal and madness.
Directed by Mike Newell, the film also stars Ralph Fiennes, Jason Flemyng and Robbie Coltrane, and is out at the end of November this year.
