It's Rambo vs Khal Drogo in this first trailer for Walter Hill's BULLET TO THE HEAD

Oh, what a day to be an action fan! The Expendables 2 is releasing today, earlier we got the first trailer for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s The Last Stand and now it’s the turn of Sylvester Stallone and Walter Hill! I feel like we need that guy from eTV doing a voice-over for Friday Action Night!

“Dey thought he was just an ol’ grandpa wit too  much veins, so dey killed his partner and kidnapped his daughter. But now he is out for revenge. Bullets! Explosions! Axe fights wit dat guy from Game of Thrones! Toniiiiiight, on Eeeeee!!!!”

Based on a graphic novel, “Bullet to the Head” tells the story of a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) and a DC cop (Kang) who form an alliance to bring down the killers of their respective partners.

Hot damn, that looks good! It seems like Sylvester Stallone is single-handedly reviving the entire manly action genre lately. The man is testosterone personified. And it’s been far too long since we’ve seen Walter Hill tackle a pure action movie like this. 1996’s Last Man Standing may have been a bit of  a dud, but he has an elite level action resume before that: 48 Hrs, Another 48 Hrs, Red Heat, Extreme Prejudice. So having him back directing guys trying to blow each other other up or putting each other’s faces cars is just awesome.

Someone hasn’t seen Another 48 Hours recently – it’s pretty awful… they even redo all the same jokes, which almost ruin them. In contrast, I really enjoyed Last Man Standing. If you want a treat, watch Yojimbo, A Fistful Of Dollars and Last Man Standing, then compare them. It’s the only time I know of that a movie has been remade twice in such very different ways.

This looks cool, but could they have produced a more by-the-numbers trailer?

You’re right. I haven’t seen Another 48 Hrs lately, so it may still be tinged by nostalgia, but there was just something missing from Last Man Standing for me.

Last Man Standing was iffy, I agree. Still, I have a soft spot for Bruce and Christopher. But best not revisit the 48 Hours sequel. It really sucks, esp when compared to the original.

I still chuckle at ‘sky blue piece of shit Cadillac’…
