Jason Momoa is going to run with some WOLVES

I’ve been a fan of Jason Momoa’s ever since he was slicing and dicing Wraiths over on Stargate: Atlantis. He had an intense physicality about him that I felt would actually make him a good fit for the Conan reboot. Uh… Yeah, the less said about that movie the better.

Since then though, with his turn in Game of Thrones as well as in the upcoming Sly Stallone actioner Bullet to the Head,  he has really gone out of his way to prove that with the right material he can be as vicious as any we’ve ever seen. And he’s going to need all that brutality as he has just landed the role of the lycanthropic villain in David Hayter’s Wolves.

Hayter may be best known as the voice of Solid/Naked Snake (Solid Snake? Naked Snake? Nah, too easy…) in the ultra popular Metal Gear Solid videogame series, along with countless other videogame and cartoon voice-acting gigs over the years, but he was also the guy who had the unenviable task of adapting both X-Men and Watchmen to the big screen; a job I feel he did quite damn well (The less we say about his The Scorpion King, the better though).

Now, for his next film, he will not only be writing, but will be making his directing debut on Wolves, which sees Lucas Till (Havok in X-Men: First Class) as a young man who discovers his family’s lupine lineage when his parents are killed and he transforms into a werewolf. He goes on the run but as he tries to figure out his parents death, is soon sent in the direction of the town of Lupine Ridge, which if the name wasn’t a dead giveaway, is a community of werewolves run by a brutal pack master played by Momoa.

And if you’re worried that Momoa might suddenly be running around in denim shorts and getting all sparkly, have no fear as FX guy Dave Elsey, who is designing the werewolves for this film and who also won a Saturn Award for his design of Beast in X-Men: First Class, has previously stated that this is going to be “very violent and bloody”.

Momoa has already proven that with the right material and director (which was clearly not Conan‘s Marcus Nispel) that he can be a force to be reckoned with on-screen. As a reminder just check out this amazing scene from Game of Thrones, which shows the intensity that he can bring.

One: I’m pretty sure that that Drogo’s speech alone just impregnated his wife; and two: I now have the sudden urge to go hunt wildlife with my bare hands and teeth.
