It’s less axe, more Oscar material here, as Steven Spielberg teams up with Daniel Day Lewis to tell the tale of the 16th US president, Abraham Lincoln. We saw a teaser as per the norm in Hollywood today for the the full trailer, and here it is.

“Shall we stop this bleeding?”, Daniel Day Lincoln asks in the trailer. Find out after the jump.

Set during his term in office in which he tried to bring the Civil War to an end, while abolishing slavery, despite having an entire cabinet against him, Spielberg and Lewis seem to be in fine form here, with his ensemble cast and stirring John Williams score.

Spielberg has said that the trailer is just a “slight texture,” of the film and “an offering of the tone”, while he calls the man himself “a monumental President,” but one that the film treats “as man, not monument.”

There’s no solid release date for the film on our side yet, but it will be released in America on November 16. The cast of Lincoln also includes  Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jackie Earle Haley, Jared Harris, Lee Pace, James Spader, John Hawkes, David Strathairn, Bruce McGill, Tim Blake Nelson, David Oyelowo and Hal Holbrook.

What do you think? Oscar material for Spielberg and co again, or does the film seem to be playing things too safe again?
