Looks like ol’ Park Chan-wook isn’t done yet with making english-language films. His debut project, Stoker, has just been completed, and it looks like he’s ready to dip his toes back into the world of the west, as the South Korean director gears up for Corsica 72.
Written by frequent James Bond scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, the black list script had previously attracted directors such as Oliver Hirschbiegel and Luca Guadagnino, who were keen on grabbing Andrew Garfield and Gemma Arterton to star in it, before things went south.
Based on a true story, Corsica 72 tells the tale of two best friends growing up on the Corsican island (That Asterix book was good for something after all!), best friends that find different paths in their lives that lead them away from each other, until of course, they start a rivaslry over the love of a single lady.
Bros before hos, I always say, but that’s Hollywood for you. Producer Adi Shankar seems pleased to have interest in the project once again, specifically from Park-wook, as he told Variety that “Having spent the majority of my life in Southeast Asia I have been a fan of director his my whole life. Where I’m from it doesn’t get any better than Park Chan-wook.”
And it looks like Park-wook will be shooting this first, before taking on that other project of his, The Brigands of Rattleborge.
