Behold the Halloween remake that almost was

The witching hour is almost upon us, and horror fans can rest assured that they’ll be on the receiving end of a knife dipped in bloody and suspense-filled flicks soon.

There’s no Halloween for Halloween this year however, but the franchise is far from dead. Ol’ Mike Myers will be back in one form or another to terrorise precocious teenagers in a William Shatner mask, and while Rob Zombie may have put his stamp on the franchise, it’s also a pity that this version of the infamous slasher never made the big screen.

Federico D’Alessandro, head storyboard artist and animatics supervisor for Marvel Studios, has certainly been busy working on the current slate of Avengers, Thor, Captain America and Iron Man movies, but before then, he also submitted his own sizzle reel to Platinum Dunes for the Halloween remake that they were producing.

Cracking in at nine minutes long, the pitch was designed to showcase the tone that he would have taken with the project, if he was handed the reins to it;

“It turned out pretty cool, but unfortunately while I was in the middle of working on it, talks fell through between Platinum Dunes and the Weinsteins…so I missed the boat on that one,” D’Alessandro tells us. “With Halloween being re-released to theaters soon, and October coming up, I’m hoping that readers could get a kick out of seeing a horror themed pitch animatic for a major property.”

And as much as I enjoyed the Rob Zombie Halloween film, I’ve got to be honest, and admit that this one looked far more interesting to me. It’s dark, edgy and has the right amount of fright to gore present. And I’m hoping that Alessandro gets his shot to make it real, when the inevitable re-reboot for Halloween arrives.

  1. This looks like it could have been epic. Would love to see them revisit this idea as well.

    I was a bit iffy on the Rob Zombie film, but that looked great.

      Nah, Zombie’s movie was a fresh breath to the slasher genre.

        I think I should rewatch the movie. It was a bit of a weird experience for me. There was nothing overt that I could say I hated about it, yet for some reason I just didn’t really connect with it.
        I have only watched that once though, so maybe a second viewing would help cement my feelings either way.

    Isn’t this a bit short to compare it to Zombie’s film? It’s good, I agree, but Zombie’s movie had plenty of all that as well.
