Matt Reeves prepares for more monkey business with DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

Last year, Rise of the Planet of the Apes surprised everyone by being a gigantic box office smash hit, and was very well received by critics and fans alike. Now, watching a film about a bunch of talking monkeys has never been quite my idea of a good time, but even I had to admit that Rupert Wyatt’s vision was well crafted and entertaining. Casting James Franco was also a grand idea, and it will come as no surprise that a sequel is in the pipeline…and it has found a director!

Matt “Cloverfield” Reeves has been signed on to bring the next installment to life, but following in the footsteps of the first film might prove to be a bit difficult. Rupert Wyatt was initially set to take the helm again, but due to his concerns that the May 2014 deadline is too soon to complete the film he stepped away from the project.

I can’t help but feel a slight bit of admiration for Wyatt for refusing to direct a film he feels is being rushed, so I think Mr. Reeves will have his work cut out for him. This might be a good fit for Reeves, as he is both used to large action set pieces and slower-paced character driven films but we will have to wait and see!

More news will follow as we hear it!
