Love or hate it, there’s no denying that The Empire Strikes Back is the most popular and iconic of all the Star Wars films out there. Or the least worst, sort of.

The film was a massive task to complete for creator George Lucas and director Irvin Kirshner, with very little behind the scenes footage allowed, due to the fact that Lucas wanted to keep a certain twist at the end super-duper quadruple secret. Well, after a couple of decades, one look at the making of the film has finally made it’s way onto the interwebs.

Back in 1980 , Michel Parbot gained backstage access to the project, documenting the work that all the actors, production crew, producers and director did, in The Making of The Empire Strikes Back. It’s never been released commercially, and it’s a seperate doccie from his other work, SPFX: The Empire Strikes Back.

Well Open Culture managed to find 15 minutes of that original backstage film from an older Dutch TV show about the film, and despite it being a rough piece of uploaded work, it’s still pretty damn interesting to see what went on during the making of The Empire Strikes Back.

Unfortunately, this is only 15 minutes of that doccie, with more details here on Open Culture. It’s worth a look, and a must see for any Star Wars fan.
