Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Want to chat with Wolverine? Well here’s you chance. Star Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold will hosting a live-chat Q&A session on Monday, October 29th at 13:00 Pacific Time (that’s about 22:00 local time) for The Wolverine, and here are the two men to tell you all about it themselves.

So just in case you didn’t take notes, remember you can ask your questions at www.facebook.com/TheWolverineMovie and www.twitter.com/wolverinemovie, and you can hopefully see them answered at www.TheWolverineMovie.com and www.youtube.com/thewolverinemovie. We’ll do a recap of any juicy stuff the day after.

There’s a story going around and being reported on plenty of movie news sites that Matt Damon is looking to star in Transformers 4. That story actually is s ridiculous as it sounds, as Michael Bay explained on his website:

“The Mark Wahlberg T4 rumor is just a rumor.

Mark and I are talking about another film project.

-Michael”

When I think of Charlize Theron, the first thing that pops into my head is “vikings”, but my brain is weird so I may be alone on that one. Not for long though, as the poppie from Benoni will joining up with Hotel Rwanda writer/director Terry George to produce a new viking drama series for ABC called The Clan. The show will apparently be set in the medieval Scottish Highlands, where warring Scottish clans will have to contend with an invasion of vikings.

There’s a new TV spot out for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey which focuses primarily on reluctant hero Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman).

The Hunger Games star Wes “My facial hair is cooler than yours” Bentley will be joining Abigail Breslin in new slasher film with a difference, Final Girl. The title is a term normally used in the genre to refer to the last girl standing, but according to this synopsis, it’s about to take on a totally different meaning.

Loner Veronica is new to school, shy and vulnerable, the perfect target for a group of teenage boys who lure girls into the woods to hunt and kill them for sport. It’s only after they get her alone that she turns the tables on them, escaping and revealing she’s armed and knows how to defend herself. Little do they know, Veronica is an assassin-in-training, and she’s chosen killing these boys as her final test. When the dust clears, Veronica will find out if she can be the final girl these boys ever have a chance to hurt.

Sounds interesting, but has a pretty high SP-Factor (that’s Suck Potential), if you ask me.

Under the Skin, the Scarlett Johansson starring long awaited new film from Sexy Beast director Jonathan Glazer was conspicuously absent from all the major recent film festivals and now word breaks that Johansson is back on set, nearly a year after shooting wrapped and the film went into post-production, to do some reshoots. Before anybody panics though, the reshoots all appear to be for scenes that require the colder weather found this time of year, which they may not have been able to get back then. As to what the film is about, well it’s a sci-fi film that on paper looks like your standard body snatching type scenarios, but as Johansson explained earlier in the year, it’s a bit more than that:

“…yes I do play an alien who is wearing my own skin. But it’s actually not a science-fiction film; it’s sort of a film that asks existential questions and is much more complex than the logline

Following on from the release of those super cool character posters of last week, here’s a new international poster for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, that might not exude as much (pardon the pun) character as those, but is still pretty decent.

Looks like the biggest geek in America, Comedy Central’s Colbert Report host Stephen Colbert (Colbert for President!), might be making a cameo appearance in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy. Colbert is a well known Tolkien fanboy of the highest order, and he recently started the rumour during a Playboy interview that he would be making an appearance:

“Peter Jackson invited me to the set last year. I flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations. I saw a 25-minute cut, and it was amazing. Jackson knows I’m a big fan of the films.”

And when asked whether he would be getting a role, he replied with “Could be”. Well, a very reliable source over at THR says that “could be” is actually a definite yes, but as to what the role would be, that is still a mystery. The source also says that Colbert’s character won’t be seen in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but rather in either the 2nd or 3rd chapters of the trilogy.

The guys over at Movies.com (no relation) clearly have more free time than we do, because they’ve managed to spot something in the Iron Man 3 trailer that can only come from going through it frame by awesome frame. It would seem that Ben Kingsley’s The Mandarin is a huge fan of a certain star-spangled hero and his team. In one shot, revealing the back of the Mandarin’s bare neck, what appears to be a Captain America tattoo can be spotted.

Here’s a closer shot for those of you lacking eyes of the HAWK-Hawk-hawk, where you can also see that the star normal central in the logo has been replaced by the stylized “A” of the Avengers logo.

What this means for Iron Man 3‘s plot is completely beyond me. Maybe ol’ Mandarin has a whole collection of tats on his body? I bet you I know where he put the Black Widow one.

Arnold Schwarzenegger may be busy returning to the world of movies with a bang, but it looks like he’s entering the world of books with just a whimper. Book sales tracker Nielsen Bookscan reports that the Governator’s autobiography Total Recall has sold a mere 21,000 copies since going on sale on October 1st. I can just imagine the “NgahAHGHannnnGH” scream when he saw that.

Another new clip from the Blu Ray release of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial gives us this little piece of cinematic history in the making, as cameras capture director Steven Spielberg and legendary composer John Williams sitting at the piano tapping out the first draft of the iconic theme song for the movie.

With all the praise that’s already being heaped on Skyfall and specifically director Sam Mendes, there are already quite a few calls going out for the Oscar winning American Beauty helmer to return for another installment in the world’s longest running film franchise. But right now, that prospect is looking a bit unlikely, as Mendes revealed to Metro UK:

“It’s been a fantastic experience, but it’s been completely exhausting. Do I want to do another one? I’m a shadow of my former self! No, I don’t know. I felt like everything I wanted to with a Bond movie, I put into this film.

“I would have to be convinced that I could do something that I loved and cared about as much if I was to do it again. I think the great risk of repeating oneself is that one doesn’t have the great store of ideas that you have when you first tackle a project.”

Mendes also revealed how the film received a blessing from the most unlikeliest of circumstances:

“We had a stroke of luck on this movie, ultimately, which was at the time one of the most frustrating things, which was the temporary bankruptcy of MGM, which for me was a bit of a nightmare because I’d really prepped the movie and was ready to go into full-scale pre-production, and we had to halt everything, if you remember, for something like nine months.

“But in that time we worked on the script. I knew every scene intimately, and we kept working. We had two weeks of rehearsals, which is a relatively new thing for the Bond franchise. We had a read-through of the script, and [series producer] Barbara [Broccoli] said to me, ‘It’s the first read-through we’ve ever had of a Bond movie!'”

Speaking of Skyfall, The Royal World Premiere for James Bond’s latest cinematic outing took place earlier today, and you can watch the whole swanky event down below. As Bond is one of Britain’s most famous exports, this was handled as the very biggest of deals, with even Prince Charles and his merry steed wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, in attendance along with the film’s stars and director.
