Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Since it’s unofficially Star Wars day on the internet, we may as well keep the ball rolling with the Force. After this morning’s press release a video was also made available showing Disney CEO Bob Iger discussing some of the finer points of the deal struck with Lucasfilm and George Lucas discussing why the sale took place. It also shows off the most expensive signature you’ve probably seen in ages.

And while all the attention has been firmly on the Force-using folks, you may be wondering how this sale of Lucasfilm affects their other big business, bull whipping, fedora wearing property. Well, at this point in time, you shouldn’t be looking for that Disney logo in front of the (inevitable) next Indiana Jones movie. As revealed in a conference call, Bob Iger stated that there are certain “encumberances” that goes with the property, meaning that Paramount still has a controlling interest in the distribution of any Indy films.

Disney however are looking at some options that are not on the big screen:

“We really like Star Wars‘ potential on TV as well, and we think Disney will be a great home for that. We really like the idea of Star Wars on Disney XD.”

The fan speculation as to who and what Star Wars: Episode 7 is going to be about is already in full swing, and GeekTyrant have put together one of the best of the lot. They’ve decided to recast with the intent of the original characters being played by younger actors today. And as far as just looks go, their choices are scary good, like Garret Hedlund as Han Solo and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Lando Calrissian. You can check the rest out over here.

And for something completely different. Well, different unless you’re into some really strange Star Wars fanfic. French director Pascal Laugier’s Martyrs is a film that divided audiences and critics due to it’s absolutely horrific and shocking material. Whether you loved it or hated it, you sure as hell never forgot it. His follow-up English language film, The Tall Man, though is apparently very by the numbers. But for his next still unnamed outing though, Laugier is promising to go back to his shocking roots. But this time it will be more about sex than gore:

“Next I’m going even further away from the horror genre, but at the same time it’s still a very genre related story; it’s a love story. I’ve never filmed people f#cking because it’s probably the hardest thing to film because it’s been done so many times and so badly. Filming sex is probably the most challenging thing for a director and everything challenging is so exciting so I have decided very recently that for the same company as produced The Tall Man, I will do a movie about sex, about a couple. It’s a love story that turns into something very twisted.”

And if you were worried that Richard B. Riddick’s badassness would possibly be toned down in the upcoming Riddick, well worry no more. The MPAA have officially given the film a R rating for “strong violence, language and some sexual content/nudity.” Along with the news, a slightly expanded synopsis has also been made available for the Vin Diesel and David Twohy sci-fi action sequel:

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Here’s a pretty cool new motion-poster for Texas Chainsaw 3D, the sequel set decades after the original that sees more pretty white girls run in the wrong direction while hiding from a horrific killer.

Deadline reports that Lionsgate has handed music video and commercial director Daniel Askill his feature film debut in the form of the rather intriguing sci-fi film, When First We Were Gods. Aron Eli Coilete will adapt the screenplay from a short story by novelist Rick Yancey, which is “set in a world where immortality is an option for the rich, the film follows a man who attempts to murder his immortal wife so that his mortal mistress can, instead, live forever at his side.”

If you been suspectig that the glowing Skyfall reviews from such well known publications as Empire and Top Film, is nothing but hyperbolic lies and you’re looking for a review source that you know won’t twisting the truth, well then have I have just the thing for you. The official newspaper of the Vatican and now offered their coverage of James Bond’s latest cinematic adventure with a 5 article spread in their latest edition.

There have been rumours flying around on the interwebs that Sony Pictures Entertainment is up for sale. But Sony Corporation head honcho Kazuo Hirai is here to squash those rumours:

“There is absolutely no truth to rumors that Sony’s entertainment businesses are for sale. As I said at our strategy meeting in April, Sony is comprised of electronics, entertainment and financial services businesses, and our entertainment companies have a stable business foundation and are poised for future growth. There is no reason to sell these industry-leading businesses and no consideration is being given to the idea.”

That still doesn’t mean that something isn’t up over at the house of Sony though. The rumours began due to the fact on top of weak financial results, the studio have severely trimmed down movie production, with no new projects going into production for the next 2 months.

Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob Thornton and Jackie Weaver will be starring in the previously announced, Tom Hanks produced Parkland, although their roles have not yet been revealed. The film is set to look at  the chaotic events following the assassination of US President John F Kennedy in 1963, and will focus on the Parkland Hospital in Dallas where he died. Adding some major fuel to the conspiratorial fires, Lee Harvey Oswald, JFK’s alleged assassin, and Jack Ruby, the man who killed Oswald, both also ended up dying in the same hospital. Duhn duhn duuuuuuuuhhhhhnnnn!

And here’s a bit of useless trivia for you: Just like many other high profile productions, Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be filming under a production alias which has been revealed today to be Freezerburn. The film is being directed by Community producers Joe and Anthony Russo, and that title is their vintage tongue-in-cheek style.

I, er, may have slipped up yesterday saying it was Halloween. So if you only got rocks to the head when you went trick or treating last night, then I must apologize.
