It's official: Bryan Singer will be the new director on X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

It sort of feels like whatever story comes after this morning’s massive Lucasfilm/Star Wars news is probably going to get lost in all the geek chatter today, so in the interests of getting heard I’m going to write this next sentence all in caps – those of you with a delicate constitution may want to avert your eyes.

BRYAN SINGER HAS OFFICIALLY REPLACED MATTHEW VAUGHN AS THE DIRECTOR ON X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.

This official confirmation from Deadline comes after the publication’s Mike Fleming first broke the possibility of the musical chairs swap last week. And it is really a swap as Vaughn will now reportedly don Singer’s old hat as producer.

Not that Singer really needs somebody looking over his shoulder, seeing as how the movie mutant sandbox they’re playing in is essentially the one he created . Singer of course co-wrote, directed and produced the very well received original 2 X-Men films, skipped involvement in the abysmal X-Men 3: The Last Stand (Well dodged, Singer. Well dodged) and wrote and produced the best of the lot, Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class. So yeah, definitely qualified for the job.

With this last shuffle all done but the paperwork, Simon Kinberg’s script complete and in the can and all principal actors like Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence’s returns confirmed and booked, everything looks ready to shoot in early 2013. So go make some mutant movie magic, Mr Singer!

  1. I’m still getting over this morning’s news about Star Wars. I am happy, and also terrified that they are going to rape the next 3 movies!
