Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

We start off today with the first look at The Hangover Part 73, oops I mean Last Vegas, the new comedy which sees veteran actors Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro and Kevin Kline playing four friends who head off to Las Vegas for a bachelor’s party for Douglas’ character who is finally getting married. Much elederly debauchery ensues. There’s also a strong possibility that they wake up the next morning not remembering what happened, but that may have more to do with the alzheimers than the alcohol consumption.

Chronicle scribe Max Landis is somehow finding time in his hectic writing schedule to also step behind the camera. Landis, son of popular 1980’s director John Landis, will be making his directorial debut with the indie feature Me Him Her, which apparently has something to do with “sexual identity” as it follows a group of 20-somethings around in Los Angeles. No, this is not a porno.

According to Variety’s Marc Grasser, Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series could begin shooting as early as January 2013. With just two confirmed cast members thus far in Clark Gregg and Ming-Na Wen, expect a flurry of news about this in the next month or so if this indeed turns out to be true.

Just in time to get things all electoral, here’s a rousing new international trailer for Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis’ Abraham Lincoln biopic, Lincoln.

Transcendence, the $120 million directorial debut of Chris Nolan’s regular cinematographer Wally Pfister, has finally got some plot details. According to The Wrapthe Johnny Depp starring film follows “three scientists, attempting work on stem cell and advanced computer technology, which will change the fundamentals of human life. Tension comes into play when they are met by protest and resistance.”

Christian Bale, James McAvoy, Tobey Maguire, Noomi Rapace and Christoph Waltz have all been attached to the film, even if just in a consideration capacity, but if Pfister gets them all, it would make for one of the best looking casts in ages.

Imogen Poots has officially joined the cast of Zac Efron rom-com Are We Officially Dating? The film will see the pair as two-thirds of a friendship that end up doing every single predictable rom-com cliche that you can think of. Probably.

There’s a new featurette out for Ang Lee’s Oscar buzzing epic Life of Pi. The new featurette shows off some cool behind-the-scenes footage as well as focusing on soon-to-be-no-longer-unknown lead actor Suraj Sharma, who went from just barely being to able to watch movies in India to starring in one of the biggest movies of the year.

Time to burn some calories as we hit the rumour mill hard. MTV Geek published a story that Disney, fresh from paying $4 billion for the ownership of my geeky soul, may (and that’s a very big “may”) be in talks to buy over toy manufacturer Hasbro. You know, the guys who make Transformers and G.I. Joe. No biggie.

Still keeping that rumour mill running, here’s something that should make our very own Lourens audibly squee with glee. Collider’s Steve Weintraub claims that he’s hearing talk from his industry sources that the reason why Matthew Vaughn dropped out of helming X-Men: Days of Future Past was because Lucasfilm have offered him the directing gig on Star Wars: Episode VII. And commence fanboy/girl screaming.

While it is just a rumour in every sense of the word, it does make a certain kind of sense.

Despite the fact that we’ve kind of known for a while now already that a Mortal Kombat movie reboot was on the way, Warner Bros Executive Lance Sloan has now made it official. How nice of him.

“We’re preparing right now for the film with Kevin Tancharoen, [who] directed the digital series for us. He’s at the helm of the forty, fifty million dollar film.”

Last we heard, the movie was going to be about a mild-mannered supermarket employee who discovers he has mystical abilities that force him to choose between championing the forces of good or evil. Which sounds absolutely nothing like Mortal Kombat.

If you’ve ever wanted to see Val Kilmer wield a chainsaw, smash a guitar, using a walker, cut his own hair and make out with one of the members of , then apparently auteur Terrence Malick’s new as-of-yet unnamed new film is going to be the one for you. Well, at least according to these new set pics that Collider has managed to get a hold of. The film also stars Rooney Mara, Ryan Gosling, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and Michael Fassbender and is apparently set in the Austin, Texas music scene, which apparently makes use of copious amounts of pharmaceuticals.

And we end off today on a nice epic note, as you can now listen to the first track for composer Howard Shore’s soundtrack for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The full soundtrack will be a two CD album including a special song written and performed by Crowded House’s Neil Flynn.

And before you ask, maybe Enya and the 15 other musicians below her on the list were all on vacation or something.

Wow, for a moment I though Kevin Kline was Gene Hackman… And here’s hoping Val’s new film will mark his long-awaited return to glory.
