Love is dead in the this trailer for WARM BODIES

Looks like it’s Undead Friday, and no I’m not just referring to you Phuza Thursday practitioners.

While we saw hordes of zombies do their best Katamari Damacy impersonation to kill Brad Pitt and the rest of the global population in this morning’s trailer for World War Z, now it’s time to look at a whole different kind of zombie story. A zombie love story to be precise.

Guess they’re swapping “HEAAAAARRRRTTTTSS!” for “BRRRAAAAAAAIIINSS!” now.

A funny new twist on a classic love story, Warm Bodies is a poignant tale about the power of human connection. After a zombie epidemic, R (a highly unusual zombie) encounters Julie (a human survivor), and rescues her from a zombie attack. Julie sees that R is different from the other zombies, and as the two form a special relationship in their struggle for survival, R becomes increasingly more human – setting off an exciting, romantic, and often comical chain of events that begins to transform the other zombies and maybe even the whole lifeless world.

Well, that was… surprisingly good looking. I should have had more faith in the concept before the trailer though, as the film is written and directed by Jonathan Levine, who already proved with 50/50 that he knows exactly how to turn conventions on their head. Most of you (except the really creepy ones) would probably never have thought that you could make a really funny comedy about Joseph Gordon-Levitt dying of cancer, but he did, and now it seems that he’s back to his genre twisting ways.

And from being one half of a Furry romantic relationship when he played Hank McCoy aka Beast in X-Men: First Class to this, Nicholas Hoult seems to have a thing for twisted love stories. At least Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four) appears to be normal. You know, apart from the whole falling in love with a zombie thing.

I thought this was going to be just Twilight with a zombie instead of a vampire? It actually looks really funny, and good, which would be the total opposite of Twilight.
