Chris Hemsworth may be heading to the CANDY SHOP

Oscar winning writer/director Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana) has been assembling quite the cast of top tier talent for his next project, Candy Shop. Everybody from Denzel Washington to Brad Pitt to Jamie Foxx to Christoph Waltz has been attached to the thriller.

So who’s left to ask when you already have Malcolm X, Edward Norton’s imaginary friend, a gunslinging slave and a Nazi spycatcher? You get a get a hammer wielding god, of course.

The Wrap is reporting that Chris “Thor” Hemsworth is now also looking to join the film which follows “an elite, deep-cover operative who loses everything, ultimately disappearing into Brooklyn, where he must start again. He winds up as a beat up cop, only to discover the global organization he was dedicated to fighting is operating in his new backyard.”

At this point, it’s still uncertain exactly who is playing what, and whether or not all the actors that have been attached to the film will actually still be in it. Which would normally be a problem, except that Gaghan has a “reserve bench” of actors, who are also interested in the project in case the principals drop out, that would turn other directors greener than Hulk boogers. Actors like Christian Bale, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Bradley Cooper.

So either way, whoever stars in this, it just sounds really good. It’s been far too long since Gaghan has produced any work (7 years since the brilliantly confusing Syriana – no seriously, I challenge anyone who claims to know exactly what is happening in that movie) and he couldn’t have asked for a more high profile comeback than this.

What’s a little weird about this news though, is that just a few days ago, Hemsworth pulled out of American Assassin, citing a too full schedule as the reason. Well I guess he wasn’t too busy for Stephen Gaghan.

If Hemsworth is indeed heading to the Candy Shop, does this mean that he’ll make you lick a lollipop? The possibility is, needless to say, disturbing

I tell ya, it took every ounce of willpower that my frame possesses to not use “Chris Hemsworth headed to Candy Shop. Will not lick lollipops” as my headline.
