Jesse Eisenberg does a double take, Marisa Tomei joins Hugh Grant/Marc Lawrence romcom, Studio Gibli movie details revealed, Help unlock a Man of Steel reward and Some minions say thank you! Plus much more! Kervyn Cloete November 23, 2012 Extras Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed! It would seem that the entire entertainment industry is still suffering from a severe case of the Itis after gobbling up all those gobblers for Thanksgiving yesterday, which has unfortunately left folks like us in the movie news business with very little to actually be thankful for. So if today’s Extras seem a bit short, blame the turkeys and those very serious looking people who lived hundreds of years ago and wore belt buckles on their shoes. And if you’ve already forgotten what I was just talking about 2 sentences ago, well then I think you need to urgently see a medical professional, but before you go, check out this new teaser for Despicable Me 2 which reminds us of exactly what North America was doing yesterday. It’s Black Friday! No, this is not Julius Malema’s favourite holiday, but rather a day (usually the Friday after Thanksgiving) where retailers all offer crazy specials. Massive e-tailer Amazon is no exception and will be running lightning deals with great savings at different times throughout the day. Luckily, Slashfilm will also be saving you on mouse clicks as they have rounded them all up for your online viewing pleasure. Holy imminent Blu Ray release, Batman! Following on from yesterday’s Batsunami of behind the scenes pics, here’s a new featurette for The Dark Knight Rises that takes a look at how the film’s visually stunning football stadium scene was put together. If you’re a Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbour Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle) fan then Christmas is coming a bit early today. The titles for the acclaimed Japanese animation studio’s next two films have been revealed when the studio registered the domain names for them. The first will be titled Kaze Tachinu (The Wind Rises) and will deal with the man who designed the Zero fighter plane for Japan, and will be directed by Miyazaki himself. The second, directed by Grave of the Fireflies helmer Isao Takahata, will be called Kaguya-Hime no Monogatari (Princess Kaguya Story) and will be based on the folk story ‘Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.’ Speaking of Grave of the Fireflies, it’s also been announced that the 1988 tear jerking masterpiece about two kids wandering the ruins of Japan as WWII comes to an end, will see a US re-release next year to mark the film’s 25th year anniversary, thanks to distributor GKIDS who have also picked up the North American distribution rights to Studio Ghibli’s catalogue last year. Earlier today we featured a new version of the trailer for Wong Kar-Wai’s gorgeous looking new martial arts extravaganza The Grandmasters, which some helpful fan was kind enough to provide English subtitles for. Well, here’s hoping that in the last 2.5 hrs since that post that you’ve suddenly became fluent in Cantonese Damn you Matrix trilogy and your instantaneous knowledge transferal for giving me these unreasonable hopes), as no such luxury has been afforded this newly released Making Of featurette that’s been revealed on the director’s personal website. Get ready for nearly 18 minutes of pretending to know what’s going on. At least everybody understands the language of fists. If you haven’t noticed Warner Bros are really pushing the Blu Ray/DVD release of Dark Knight Rises and now they’ve even roped Batman’s most famous red and blue friend to help with the promotion. Apparently an “Exclusive Reward” related to Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, Man of Steel, is going to be unlocked when enough people like this TDKR banner. Cool, I’m game, so here’s us doing our bit. You can to by clicking the Share box in the bottom left of the banner. Lucasfilm and Disney have thus far only made moves to appoint writers but directors yet for the Star Wars trilogy, which according to Slashfilm’s logic, is actually something that all fans should be really happy about. Richard Ayoade (The I.T. Crows, The Watch) might be known to most as just an awkward British funnyman, but he’s apparently quite the hand behind the camera as well. His 2010 directorial debut Submarine was met plenty of critical praise, and now we have the first few pics of his followup film, The Double. The film stars Jesse Eisenberg as a pretty ordinary bureaucrat, whose life and and mental state get sent into a downward spiral when his doppelganger mysteriously starts working at his governmental office. Ayoade has said that film will be a lot more darker and serious than his previous effort and these rather atmospheric looking pics certainly seem to corroborate that. Noah Taylor (pictured with Eisenberg below), Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn, Rade Serbedzija, James Fox and Yasmin Paige also star. Marisa Tomei, who somehow appears to be doing the opposite of aging, is in negotiations to sign onto the still untitled romantic comedy that sees Hugh Grant teaming up with writer director Marc Lawrence (Two Weeks Notice, Music and Lyrics, Out of Towners) for a fourth time. The film will see Grant as a flat broke, down on his luck screenwriter who was once the Oscar winning toast of Hollywood, now forced to take a job teaching at a small college to pay the bills. Where, of course, he runs into single mom Tomei, who’s busy trying to put herself through school. Cue romantic fireworks and much stammering and awkward mumbling from Grant. And to finish off today, we have this hilarious short film from Comedy Central’s Key & Peele titled I’m Retired. When a threat unlike any other we’ve seen faces the nation, the military has only one man they can turn to for help.
