This trailer for I GIVE IT A YEAR has Frankenstein with boobs!…OK not quite, but it’s still funny!

I think Americans need to start drinking more tea and warm beer.

You see I am a bit of a Romantic Comedy expert. Not through choice, oh no! But if you’ve been with somebody who really loves their “girly movies” for as long as I have, you get to know these things. Luckily, through all the teeth gnashed down to nubs, occasionally a pretty good rom-com that both of us can enjoy creeps through (Why just yesterday we devoted an entire article to just such movies) and 99% of the time, for me at least, it’s British.

It seems that the Brits have a far better grasp of  how to make girls go “Awww” while making guys guffaw, than their old subjects from over the pond do. And now it looks like they may have hit that sweet spot again.

Since they met at a party, ambitious high-flyer Nat (Rose Byrne) and struggling novelist Josh (Rafe Spall) have been deliriously happy despite their differences. Josh is a thinker, Nat’s a doer, he’s lasses faire and she’s quite anal… but the spark between them is undeniable.

Their wedding is a dream come true, but family, friends and even the minister who marries them aren’t convinced that they can last. Josh’s ex-girlfriend, Chloe (Anna Faris), and Nat’s handsome American client Guy (Simon Baker), could offer attractive alternatives…

With their first anniversary approaching, neither wants to be the first to give up, but will they make it?

OK, yes, there are actually quite couple of Yank faces in that production, but it still has that British tone. I was half expecting Hugh Grant and Colin Firth to be fighting over a scone somewhere in the background. Also I have an unreasonable love for both Anna Farris and Minne Driver so throwing them both in this movie is just gravy.

With Dan Mazer, the writer of Borat and Bruno, pulling both writing and directing duties on this, I expect that there’s a whole lot more riskier material that this Green Band trailer is not showing us, but even so it still seems like this could be a hoot.

I Give It a Year opens in the UK on 8 February 2013, but not further international release dates have been set yet.
