Nearly 40 years after Hollywood’s favourite amateur backyard plastic surgeon (okay so he wasn’t that good at the job) first made his human skin wearing appearance, Leatherface is back to add a couple more trophies to his collection.

And judging by this new 60-second TV spot and trailer for Texas Chainsaw 3D, there never seems to be a shortage of scantily clad girls and their unfortunate boyfriends who are more than willing to donate their faces to the Sawyer family business,

Lionsgate’s TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D continues the legendary story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace.  The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible.  Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young woman escaped the Sawyer house following the brutal murders of her four friends.  Word around the small town quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family – or so they thought.

Decades later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had.  After embarking on a road trip with friends to uncover her roots, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. But her newfound wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion’s dank cellars.

Star Alexandra Daddario certainly has grown up since Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, that’s for damn sure, and clearly knows how to do a great scared whimper, which means she’s perfectly cast for a film like this. Also it would seem that Trey Songz has not looked in a mirror in his entire life. If had he would realize that he is a very black man stuck in a slasher scenario, which means that he has the life expectancy of a fruit fly. It was nice knowing ya, Trey!

The film certainly doesn’t appear to be breaking the mold or shying away from it’s genre tropes which may make or break it for some, depending on your love for this kind of thing.   Personally, this is not really my cup of bloody tea, due to how predictable so many of these type of films are, and this doesn’t appear to be bucking that trend.

Original director Tobe Hooper seems to love this sequel though, calling it “Incredible! A perfectly terrifying follow-up to the original,”

Well, we’ll see about that, Hooper.
