The original Anchorman had no shortage of star power when it was first released. Will Ferrell, Steve Carrel, Christina Applegate and Paul Rudd were just a few of the examples on that list, while Seth Rogen hung around as a camera-man, and Jack Black popped in to play football with a dog named Baxter.
The upcoming sequel will see many of those fine news anchors and their crew return, as well as a few new fresh faces, because it looks like the lover of lamps, Brick Tamland might be getting a love interest in the form of Kristen Wiig.
The Bridesmaids‘ star has been approached to appear in the film, in a role that would have her play “opposite Steve Carell, as a love interest of some kind”, according to The Wrap. As to how substantial that role would be, it’s unclear, although seeing as how Brick works best in small doses of LOUD NOISES, it might match his time on screen.
And it sounds like a good idea to use her. With a rising profile thanks to Bridesmaids, and the fact that Anchorman producer Judd Apatow also had a hand in that film, it spells teamwork, something which always contributes nicely to a production.
Anchorman 2 is looking to start shooting next year March, for an October release.
